First off SORRY for the long read

I just ordered a van turbo for the truck and was looking into doing the ATS housing then thought about using parts from the GTP38R

I am thinking about using the backing plate, compressor housing, and turbine from the GTP38R

With these should flow more air using the 88mm turbine and get the advantage of the enhanced map width housing (I think its called) not to mention it may be cheaper

So far I have gotten ahold of a local diesel shop and the housing is only $100 and I priced a Holset turbine wheel for another project and it was only $60 so if the backing plate is $100 I will have about $500 in a NON ball bearing GTP38R

Has anyone got any first hand knowledge if this will work

I have posted this up on another site all I got was some guy giving me crap for my idea telling me to stop reinventing the wheel and buy a BB turbo (Turns out he has a used one for sale though wont sell it to me for what I would have in this) NOT an option on my budget

 

From what I have seen, the only thing you can bolt to a GTP38R is an upgraded 1.15 turbine housing specifically designed for it (won't fit any other turbo). No other parts interchange, and I've never heard of anyone who was successful otherwise.

 

So is it a totally different turbo I was kind of thinking it is a Ball Bearing version on the stocker and I could make it work with a little machining
