Not to beat a dead horse here but I am thinking of replacing my 1704a tuner with an SCT custom tune(r) that (if I read correctly) can disable the EGR and EBP. If the custom tune can do that, should I bother getting the 05e15 recall done?
My truck runs fairly well now and my average (lie-o-meter) mileage around town is about 15.5 which I thought the recall might improve upon slightly.
Love my 6.0!
Get the new flash and upgrade the tuner files. The EBP cannot be turned off like the EGR. I am running the new flash....
Thanks Max for the info. I called the stealership and they told me since my truck is not part of the recall that it would cost me $70.00 bucks to get the update. Worth it?
It has to do with emissions, so I would question the charge. You have an EBP sensor, this flash eliminates the EBP from the loop...I have been wrong before but one of our resident techs may have an answer for you.
As it currently doesn't apply to all build dates, I believe it depends upon whether or not they've incorporated this new strategy into the code that corresponds to your truck's build. I don't think it applies to mine, and thus no recall, but I have a PM out to VLONEY to get his read.
It appears that 05E15 and 06E17 are being referenced interchangeably - just different build dates.
Is the the following summary true?
05E15 - updates the EBP sensor to a more robust material. Some additional programming logic to support its operation (and some other EGR emissions stuff). EBP is still used for control logic.
06E17 - takes the EBP sensor out of the programming logic and only applies to pre Sept 29, 2003 6.0's. Its still there, but doesn't provide input to anything.
FTE has everything, guess I missed or forgot that thread....Thanks
That should clear up all the questions for flashes. The one I didn't know was the cut-off for the 04 model on the flash. I assumed all 03-04 engines could utilize this flash.
Ok after reviewing my receipts from the dealer, 05e15 which installs an updated EBP sensor and connector, has been completed on my truck previously.
06e17 which ignores the signals from the EBP sensor is only for trucks built prior to 9-29-03. So I presume since my truck was built (FICM sticker says 02-25-04) then the EBP can't be "ignored" via the 06e17 update.
Tonight on the way home it started getting a coughing feeling when I was climbing a hill but since I retreived a p0405 code I think that darn EGR is sticking which will be resolved by getting the SCT XCal 2.
I think I am starting to make heads and tails of this.....................
Finally had it done because my oil had 4% fuel in it. Seems to run OK, power is fine, definitely louder because I lost the "quiet idle". Has the buzz for about 10 seconds. Will check mileage and let you know.
Got 17 mpg going from Denver to Craig, that's about where I was before. Still getting a lot of "thumps" under the hood, wonder if that is the turbo sticking?
has anyone done the recall #05e15, just wondering before i decided to take it in?
As others have said take it in and have it done. Mine is an 05 and was done several months ago while in for a oil change. I have not noticed any problems with power or fuel mileage changes. The 06 does not get as good of fuel mileage as my 7.3L did, but it more than makes up for it in raw get up and go power. I don't know why but my dealer has never put any stickers under the hood to say what flashes it has had, the only record is on the invoice that I get when service is done.
