Vlony, Bow tie and SoCal...thanks for all the help. I did what Bowtie suggested and disconnected the battery, restart and so on. Seemed to have helped and got me back to where I was prior to the last visit to Fontana. At the moment it is back to 2500 rpms at 20 boost. When flogging I can get the boost up to around 26. At least I don't have to get up to 3000 rpms to get 20 boost. Thanks again. This I can live with. The truck is running so good!

I have an 04 F-350 and I am having surging problems and idle problems. I took it in and they told me that my EGR valve was binding, EBP sensor was bad, and turbo VGT fins were binging. I replaced the EGR valve and EBP sensor myself, but would like to know how hard it would be to do the turbo myself. I was hoping someone would have an answer for me also. I also want to know about the PSD. Bryan

me too

have an 04, 550, 28K mi. have had my share of problems also. i am on my second turbo and now can get 35# boost when i have my foot in it. ford says its my oversized exhaust. from what i have heard, the exhaust does not void any warrenty issues. am going to find out which flash i have and question the ebp issue again. i talked to international yesterday and found out they recalled all the ebp sensors & tubes on the int. 6.0's but ford never did! would appreciate comments.
Thanks, jim

Ford has addressed the EBP Sensor a # of times. Especially with regard to the '03 / '04 Engine builds. Please note the following:

2003/04 Computer Programming Recall 06E17:
Truck built before 9-29-03 are being recalled to have the computer reprogrammed. The reason for this recall is to correct fuel injection timing during cold operation, EGR valve control, lack of power, check engine light illumination (P02263 or P0299), hard starting and rough running concerns related to Exhaust BackPressure sensor corrosion. Other symptoms not listed in this recall, but which could occur, would be excessive smoke, turbo control and surging at idle or cruise. The new update eliminates the EBP sensor input to the computer. The exhaust backpressure will now be inferred/calculated using other sensor signals. Trucks should be reprogrammed using versions 41.8 or 42.1 or higher.
After this reprogramming, the truck should be test driven, the computer checked for a codes and the codes cleared (even if none are present), the key cycled on for five seconds, then turned off twice, then the engine started and allowed to idle for 5 minutes at operating temperature to allow the computer to relearn the EGR valve closed position value. This is to prevent erronious codes or driveability sysmptoms related to the EGR valve an turbo performance. Broadcast Messages 5452, 5529.

2004/05 Emissions and EBP Sensor Recall 05E15:
Certain 2004 and 2005 trucks are being recalled for computer reprogramming and replacment of the Exhaust BackPressure sensor and, in some cases, the EBP sensor connector. Econolines built between 12-9-03 through 5-28-04, and SuperDuties and Excursions built between 12-1-03 through 5-31-04 will have the EBP sensor connector replaced. SuperDuties and Excursions built between 9-29-03 through 11-30-03, or between 6-1-04 through 1-18-05, and Econolines built from 6-1-04 through 3-3-05 do not have the connector replaced. All of the above trucks will be reprogrammed to the latest calibration level. Since many trucks ahave already had the EBP sensor replaced with the current level part, the sensor part number should be inspected. If the part number on the sensor is 1850353 over a number starting with "C1", the sensor does not need to be replaced. Any other numbers, or unreadable numbers, will be replaced.

2003-05 Various Running Problems, Check Engine Light; New EBP Sensor:
Trucks built before 1-17-05 that exhibit buck/jerk, hesitation, lack of power, stalling, stumble, black smoke, surging, rolling idle, changes in engine sound at idle or when driving at a steady speed, or with the trouble codes P2263 or P0299, may have an exhaust backpressure sensor signal that is incorrect or erratic. A revised EBP sensor is available if this is found to be the case. Part number 4C3Z-9J460-A. Broadcast Message 3815.
Normal EBP signal reading should reflect atmospheric pressure with the key on/ engine off. Typically, this is 14.7 PSI/0.88-0.9 volts at sea level, decreasing one PSI/0.10 volt for every 2000 feet of elevation. It should be within 0.5 PSI of BARO and MAP sensor pressure signals.

ICP/EBP Sensor Repair Kit:
Both PowerStroke engines may exhibit codes related to the ICP(7.3: P1280; 6.0: P2285) and/or EBP sensors (P0472). If these codes are present, clear them. Start the engine and wiggle the sensor connector that matches the stored code. If the code returns, replace the sensr connector--P/N 3C3Z-12224-BA for 94-96; 3C3Z-12224-AA for 97-2004. Broadcast Message 1078/SSM #17573.

Hey, Tim

Still trying to sort this out. My pickup will not spin the tires on gravel! They are still telling me this is normal. Do you have a part # for the BPS sensor and or a place to get one for a reasonable price?

New 2003 6.0 owner with Code p2263

Hi guys gotta jump in here, I just purchased a 2003 F350 4x4 with 6.0 and 4R100 tranny still under 5yr/100,000 warranty. I love my Ford didn' realize it until I was reintroduced.

My problem is that I have no basis of what a 6.0 shoould perform like and my truck threw a p2263 code the other day. The truck seemd fine but off the line sometimes it seems kind of doggy ( empty) The dealer(not a ford dealer) is still obligated to repair the truck but I am thinking it should be going to Ford.

I have been reading as much as I can on this code and ALL the possible problems. What course of action should the ford dealer/service be taking to correct the problem and what is them blowing smoke?

Am I relugated to them going back and forth with me and the truck until they get it right or are there some things I could ask for/about that might hasten the process.

Sorry for the length of this post

Green_Monster: P2263 is turbo related. Happened to me 3 times, 1st was VGT solonoid, 2nd was turbo vanes sticking, and 3rd was another turbo. At the time the turbos went Ford was replacing them. Now they may clean them to free up the vanes but they may still replace it if they choose. Since the 3rd turbo, which was an upgraded turbo for my '03, the turbo has been working ok, knock on wood!
