Hi guys, I've read quite a few threads where people are replacing their dash pads and your removal instructions are very helpful but they typically say see the replacement dash pad for the bolt locations. I need to pull my dash pad to dye it and then i'm going to put it back in. Can anyone help sort of describe where the bolts will be found since I don't have another pad to reference? Thanks guys!!
I just removed mine and from what I recall there are eight total bolts. Two on each far side, one above the glove box, one above the gauges and two in the middle (one is parallel to the ground coming out of the middle dash piece that goes down the dash a little). You'll need to remove the glove box and gauges, and move the vents around to get to the bolts. You might need to remove the heater/stereo too but I'm not sure. Good luck!
Yeah like F1rocco-NY said, take the whole thing apart take the dash out and paint it and cover the inside with Super Dynamat too. Then leave off the silly dash pad. Ok that's what I did, YMMV.
When I did that I found the source of the "cricket" sound the dash made for about 10 years... a bolt left out of the driver's side.
And oiled my windsheild wiper mechanism when the dash was out and re-foam covered the flapper doors and a couple other things. Oh yeah, got the dead mouse out of the vent system too.

Some places offer a free Dupont color picture matching thing...They can take pic of your door panels and match it with the "Exact" color...Usually a $25 fee....If painting or dying is your choice...the pad is easy to take out...Im thinking nine nuts...Same size as your heater core box...If you got A/C.Hint....
Auto paint store have all the original colour & mix codes.
They can mix Vinyl dye ever bit as easy as paint.
The DYE is a different product than paint.
It can be applied the same way but the preparation materials are different depending on what you are dying.
Plastic vs Yinyl.
Plastic prep vs Vinyl prep
First : For a cleaner I use lacquer thinner.Make sure you wear a mask and do the work in a well ventilated area.
I have dyed several Mustang interiors with total success using vinyl dye using The "PREVAL" application system. http://www.prevalspraygun.com/
It's well worth the money.
This system allows one to paint or dye several different colours/projects.
