Dash Pad Question

Is your top dash pad the same color as your dash?

Does your dash pad color match your door panel color?

My 1978 Ford F150 Ranger has a blue interior with a black dash pad. Is this correct, or was it replaced at some point? Most of the ones I have seen are the same color as the interior, like if the interior is red, the dash pad is red.

Nope.

I've got a 1973 F100 with red interior and panels but a black dash pad. I don't think it was replaced by a PO, but it certainly could have been. I have a feeling that variation in dash-pad color was limited and that color dash pad which best set off the interior color was installed.

My baby blue '73 had a blue dash pad that matched the door panels as well as the two dark blue '79s I had. My silver '76 had a black pad that matchs the black interior. IMO yours is not the original color. If you dont like it you can paint it, the "new" one in my '76 was painted and looks great.

My 73 I have just started has no panels in it and I will be replacing them. I thought when I looked them up in the Carpenter catalog they listed originals and only offered black. So I thought they were all black. And I saw the after markets and they seemed to be painted to match. This truck was a ginger metallic brown so were the panels brown to match the interior paint.

686, I've seen the brown interior complete, and yes, there is a brown dash pad.

To the original question, my trucks interior (what little was left of it) was original when I got it, and yes I had green on green. The green pad was trash though so I put in a black one I had (different dash pad colors don't look out of place at all in my opinion if that is part of your question). Not sure how they came stock though, but would assume that you could choose.

My 79 has red with red dash and door panels. It will be changed to a brown pad and brown door panels and a lighter brown interior paint. I had a blue pad on blue dash and blue door panels. Another one with brown pad on blue dash and blue panels. Then before that one another one with brown on brown dash and panels. Then a bronco with brown pad ,panels and interior paint. I have saw both dark brown and light brown pads. So it looks like there were a lot of different combinations . The ones that had all brown interiors , had brown vinyl head liners .

Both my rigs are red on red with white visors, thinking on color matching the visors.

Here is mine, and I am sure it is the original interior. It was bought new(1977) in Ohio by a company, then sold in 1978 to a guy who was 61 years old at the time, and when he was not using the truck he kept it in his barn. He stopped driving it in the mid 80's so it set in the barn until he passed away at the end of 2007 at 91 years of age.

My 78 bronco is red interior, red pad and pannels... the 78 250 is blue interior and blue pad/pannels. Same on he 76 150, tan interior, tan pannels and tan dash.

I can't tell you what color the pad is in my 73... but the interior matches the outside, and the panels match.. orange. I just haven't looked close enough at the dash to know I guess... hmm.

I've thought about color matching the pad in the bronc from red to black to match the outside and contrast the inside... but black gets soooo damn hot in the sun/a closed cab, i put off the idea.

Your truck looks brand new Harold. Is that steering wheel original? I remember back in the early '80s almost all the '73s-'77s wheels were already cracked from the sun, I need one like yours for my '76

Both my trucks are the same blue on the outside. My '76 has a blue interior with a black dash pad and black sunvisors, and my '78 is blue everywhere. I'm pretty sure the all blue '78 is original.

Yup, it is the original wheel. there is a slight, I mean slight hair line crack on the right side near the horn pad. It is just covered up by the cover I have on the steering wheel. I consider myself lucky to have found a truck that set in a barn for all of those years and before that had been driven by a guy who was 61 when he got it. A younger guy is going to grow tired of the same old, same old, and is going to add after market stuff, and drill holes etc, etc.

When I got it everything bolted to the motor was bad, or going bad after setting all those years, (except the power steering pump, distributor, voltage regulator & ICM). Its been alot of work, which continues to this day, but I enjoy it, and really enjoy the truck much much more than I thought I would. Thanks for the compliment!

PS: I am most proud of that dash pad with NO cracks at all!!

PSII: Also, I did get a stereo in it this summer.
