I used to work for an International dealership and I do know that the PCM does have to be programmed to your specific VIN. As far as the chip causing so much damage I don't know if that is true or not. My problem was the IPR.

Be sure I understand this right if my PCM goes out I cant get a used one and put it in?

Jody can burn you a stock program PCm for 250. All he needs is the EEC code off the PCM.

Yeah, $250 from DP. $600 from the dealer.

While the PCMs are year specific, I bet any year PCM will at least fire and run a 99-03 PSD, at least long enough to check. Did you get your old PCM back? Sorry you had to endure that, and the worst part of it is that it may not be over yet. I would demand they make it right and pay no more.
