Confession will set you free my brother. Now then, this has been going on since Dec? I will skip the what were you thinking part and try to get to the bottom of the current problem.
Disconnect all that new stereo crap and try the old CPS. I don't think either of your CPS's are bad but what the hey. You then have to check all of your fuses and I mean all of them. My concern is a dead PCM or ECU or puter at this point from your mods.
I hope I am wrong but is this your daily driver? You may want to swap out your PCM with a known good one, ideally trying yours in a known good truck so as not to trash a good one in your truck. Aside from that, send it to Jody at DP tuner or swallow the bullet and take it to the stealer.
If i cooked the PCM wouldn't I still get a code? Also all the stereo crap has been disconnected since I smelled smoke back in December. Everything else works as it did before; except for the delay. I never found the blown fuse link on that constant hot wire (for the radio) but all other fuses are good. Looks like it's donation...I mean diagnosis time at the Ford dealer. Thank You again for all the info.
Also, my wife has an '02 Excursion, could I throw my PCM in her truck? She has the Six Gun Bundle from Banks, would I lose any of that programming by disconnecting her PCM? It's bad enough I messed up my truck, but if I mess up hers it'll make the news...
Disclaimer time. I will not say your PCM is cooked based on our limted exchange here. Remember, I am just trying to help based on what you tell me as anyone else here will do. As for a code being stored, where would it be stored if the PCM is toast? Now a good scanner should tell you about a dead PCM, I THINK.
That is why I asked if your truck is your daily driver. It is late and there are many folks on this forum smarter than me that may be able to help if you have the time. In the end you may have to take it to the dealer. I don't know, wish I could help you man. Electrical gremlins are not my forte.

Thank You very much for all of the info thus far. You guys (and Gals) are a tremendous help. No need for a disclaimer, I take full responsability for my goof ups and brain farts. I'll post the prognosis I buy in the morning - good thing my wife has a PSD to tow me to the shop with:-)
Took it to the dealer, waited all day, and of course, they could not get to it today. Tech took keys home, blah, blah, blah. Hopefully we will find out tommorrow. Starting to think it is the high pressure oil pump.
Heard from the dealer this morning that it is the Injector Drive Module, and the EBT sensor and tube. Does anyone know if these are items that I can order parts for and replace by myself. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
Update...Dealer installed new IDM & tube, & EBP sensor. $1200.
Then calls at the end of the day to tell me that it still won't start. Says PCM is fried.
Blames all damage on a "chip" that previous owner had on PCM that "burned up" & took the IDM, & EBP sensor with it.
Grand total (still not done yet) : $2350
Dealers Suck.
Damn Mike. That is total BS from the dealer. Do you think they would have a spare PCM around to see if yours was fried? No, just replace expensive Sh##$ and say yours is toast after that doesn't work. Maybe it is but how would you know? I hate those SOBs. I bet the guy who worked on your stuff was wearing out a tech book and that's about it.
Now you can really get me going, what's the quote for a new PCM?
I have the same problem with a 99 F250. Replaced cps and fuel filter. I am getting fuel. Beginning to think it is IDM, IPR or HPOP. Hope to hear what Mike's outcome was soon.
Well I got her back from the dealer. I can't be sure if all that they said was wrong really was, but it does start and run now. I asked if they had a spare PCM that they could put in to check if mine was bad, but I was told that the PCM is VIN specific and has to be programmed for my specific truck. In other words bend over & shut up. The teck explained to me that when a chip is installed on the PCM it effectively changes the work that specific parts do. The chip over worked the IDM and caused it to fail, & same thing with the Back Pressure Sensor. He said that even with the chip removed, the damage was done, & that is why the truck still felt chipped...He was right since it's been back it is much slower to accelerate.
The total cost of repairs was $1838.08. PCM was $600, IDM was $900, BPS was $100.
They tried to stick me with a $100 towing bill, but said it was a mistake after I told them that I brought it in on my own trailer.
Now I got a Check Engine light on. When it comes on the truck takes a major stumble, then continues running. It does the same thing when the light goes off. I'm afraid to scan it. I know if I take it back to the dealer it won't be their fault, and it be more $$$ down the drain.
