Hey slowmans - please keep us posted if you do decide to switch over. I have an 05 PSD F250 FX4 and I'm ready to get rid of these crappy Ranchos. This truck is almost dangerous on bumpy roads (especially in a corner where the Ranchos hop).
I posted a couple of times elsewhere on this and only got one response. It was positive. I have been looking at Edelbrocks and Bilsteins. Edelbrock used to be much cheaper on eshocks.com, but that recently changed and they are about the same price now. I've heard lots of good feedback on Bilsteins, but I just can't stand to put blue and yellow shocks under my red truck.
From what I can tell from all the threads and feedback is that the Edelbrocks or Bilsteins will be a slightly stiffer ride, but won't hop or jar you like the Ranchos. In other words, they'll act like shocks are supposed to by keeping the tires on the ground.
Bilsteins are also available in a natural finish for many applications, so the hideous yellow doesn't have to be dealt with. Drive a truck with both shocks on both asphalt and any type of offroad, you will buy the Bilsteins.
I have been using the Edelbrock shocks on my 1999 f250 for several years now. They are the ones with the inertia valve that flies open on big bumps and stays closed for a firm ride on smooth roads. I have zero complaints. They were a huge improvement over the factory shocks. I will get them again on my next truck for sure.
I had Edelbrock shocks on my 99 Burb and loved the handling in the canyons. there was absolutely no lean in the corners up until about 10 mph over the "caution" speed. I also had 20's on that Burb.
I just ordered them for the Beast. They should be here by next weekend, so stay tuned!
I put Edelbrock IAS shocks on my 2004 Excursion at 14,000 miles because of it's crapy ride over our poor roads here in southeastern PA. I have been very happy with them, now have 1 year and 11,000 miles on them. Ride slightly firmer but with much better control in turns , less lean and better handling on wash board roads. So far, no durability issues.
