My Escape did not have cruise control when we bought it, and it was something I wanted to look into adding.
It's the 4cyl. version and I was just wondering if anyone knew how difficult adding it after the fact would be.
On a lot of other cars I've owned they have already had wireing harnesses and such in place for accessories so you could just attach them, but this is my 1st Ford so I did not know if they tend to do the same.
Ford doesn't sell an OEM cruise kit as aftermarket for the Escape. Your missing the wiring, brake switch, a different steering wheel, etc, etc. The early Escapes had some non-essential wiring left in them such as the rear power port (all you needed was the rear port) but they de-listed those items. I don't think they ever had the cruise wiring w/o cruise even on the early models.
I've heard of one guy that's attempting to install the cruise hardware from a Contour on his Escape. He's been at it at least 3 weeks and he's had to order some various items since they don't match. We'll see if he gets it to work. If he develops some electronic gremlins I imagine the shop wouldn't touch his.
Your best bet would be an aftermarket kit. Probably around $400 but you'd be stuck with a stalk mount cruise control. If you got that route, get some good recommendations since some are better than others.
