I recently purchased a 2005 F250 with a 6.0 liter diesel. I am a recent convert from the Chevy Crowd (A whole different story). The truck did not have cruise control so I decided to ad it. I purchased and installed a steering wheel and the proper clock spring assembly. I then took it to the dealer and had the cruise control feature activated in the PCM. The cruise will not work. Is there something else that I need to do. Thanks Chris
Welcome to FTE. The only other thing I can think of is to check your owners manual for a fuse issue. If there is a fuse listed for cruise control, take a test light or multi meter and check both sides of the fuse for power. Perhaps the fuse block doesn't have a wire to power the cruise fuse (if there is one).
Otherwise, it sounds like it's back to the dealer, or somewhere that has a scanner capable of working with the PSD, and running a switch test to see if any of the sensors are bad. A faulty sensor at any of the pedals can cause the cruise not to work.
Thanks for the reply. I figured out that Ford must have changed the order of the pins in the connector. I have to press resume to turn on the cruise and press on to resume. Other than that it is working perfect.
When I bought my '06 SD, it did not have the cruise control/tilt wheel option. So for $400 the dealer added a cruise control steering wheel and turned on a parameter in the PCM. It works perfectly. They said to add tilt wheel it would be about $1500 because a lot of stuff would have to be torn into.
Basically the only difference is the steering wheel has the proper buttons and the computer work. I dont know of any 'kit' for the Super Duties. I do have a friend that bought an aftermarket cruise control kit for his Jeep Wrangler. So it is possible there might be one out there for your truck.

Would you have the part # on steering wheel? When I asked dealer was confused,,, he does that alot!
Sorry I dont have any part numbers. It was part of the deal when I bought the truck new - add Line X bed liner, tinted windows, cruise control........
Try a different dealer. For example, I went to add TowCommand and the first dealer said it couldnt be done and the second said it could. Some dealers just dont know and are quick to answer wrong.
I'm looking to do the cruise control upgrade as well... I found this "kit" available for the 2005 Super Duty for $375.30. Part Number: 5C3Z-9A818-AAA. Check out this link:
As for the tilt steering, I believe that around $200.00 worth of parts will get the job done. I looked at this diagram and it appears that you need parts 2, 14, 15, 16, and 17. Parts 2 & 15 costs the most... Check out this link:
