They didn't make one factory in that year half ton. It's a conversion reffered to as an SAS. (straight axle swap) I did one on my 94 supercab. There are pictures in my gallery of it.
Mine is a dana 44 out of a 79 bronco. 78-79 bronco and F-150 used a straight axle with coils making it an easy, but time consuming job. There are also other years and axles that will work. Some of the guys in the off road forum have done the same thing.
there is a kit that is sold on broncograveyard but frankly is over priced. do a search on google for Ford SAS. to accomplish this swap you will have a minumum of 6" lift otherwise there will be interference with the front axle and front frame crossmember. with axle figure about 2k at least unless your super resourcefull getting all the parts.
i know that this is digging up an old thread, but im looking to do an SAS, and in all the looking i have done here, everyone has said the same thing........that you need 6" of lift so that it will clear the front crossmember. I have been wondering, is it possible to just change the crossmembers, because i dont want 6". 4 is good enough for me
yeah, i know that doing that can be dangerous for structural integrity stuff, but i was thinking, couldnt a person just swap out the crossmember to either the 78-79 one, or grab one from a F350 of the same year
