No reverse lights

I've got an 86 f150, 302, 4spd manual, regular cab.

My reverse lights dont work. I've checked the wiring and it all seems fine, replaced bulbs, checked fuses.

Could it be my back up light switch?

Also, where is said switch? I can't find it.

Thanks for any help.

It should be in the transmission. Look for a couple of wires or harness going towards trans.

Thanks, I've found one wire, that goes to the top of the tranny near the shift linkage, its got a round rubbery boot with some sort of circular electrical connection.

Would that be it?

Yup, that is the back-up switch.

You might switch fuses with another location. I've seen a fuse look OK but not be OK.
It's usually the simple things.

I'll try that, thanks! Although that cant be it because when I did take the electrical connection off the switch i accidentally touched the tranny with the lead and it sparked really good.

I'm thinking its gotta be that switch because there is power there.

When it sparked you probably blew the fuse, so now you may have two problems. I think its Fuse #5 (15 A.).

Sure enough, it was the switch. Had a small amount of fluid in the switch and electrical connector, might've been shorting or a dead switch. Lights work perfect now.

$14 and I'm happy.
