hello i am seventeen and i own a 1985 F-150 with a 300 i-6 motor. The other day i was driving down the interstate when my fuel pump broke i got my truck towed back to my house and i replaced the old fuel pump ..thinking that my truck would run again... when i turn the key the engine cranks but it will not start ..even when i pour fuel into the carb.( i noticed the new fuel pump wasnt pumping in fuel but that is because it is not primed). I need all the expertise i can get if u have any ideas please comment .. im completly stumped
Take the coil wire off of the distributor and place it near but not on the center post on the distributor where you took it off. Have a friend look to see if there is a spark coming off of the wire to the post. It's best to wait until it's almost dark out to see anything.
As far as your fuel pump, are you sure the fuel guage is right? If you have dual tanks, try switching to another tank and see if the fuel pump pulls fuel. I know it sounds stupid, but Ford sending units are famous for being wrong. On my truck, the front tank reads 3/4 full until it's just about empty while the back tank reads normal.
