hahah i'd like one of those on my truck!! Ok, this is where i am at now. I have everything setup. I have the spark plug in the pipe(screwed in) when i flip the switch with the truck off and the wire diconnected to the plug, i tested it on metal like the pipe, pumper etc. anything metal and it sparked just fine. but when i put it on the end of the spark plug, it does nothing?? why could this be? thanks
i did, then i tried opening it. Earlier in the post DANTHEMAN stated that he had this setup and it worked fine. but he said he had a 30 amp inline fuse also. What is this and what does it do and where can i get it.
well the way i hooked it up now there is no coil. But i dont think there is enough power to make the plug spark. so i was wondering if i could go get another coil to give it more power? or can i just use my coil? thanks
If you use a coil your going to need a seperate coil from the one used to fire your engine, you will also need a condenser, basically it will be the same set up as a point distributor excpet the switch replaces cam actuated points. Don't take offense at this, but if you can't read the schematic neccessary to make a simple electrical circut such as this don't do it. Your just asking for trouble and will probably get hurt. If you insist on going ahead read about point ignition systems in a shop manual. Understand how they work and you will then understand how to make the thrower work. I set one up with a relay to bounce betwen two coils to excite the circut. But before you ask I won't post the diagram or give instruction to you on how to construct it. Once you understand basic circuts and understand how a coil/condenser/and points work. You will be able to make your own without asking anyone to commit to the liabilty of giving you a damm good way of hurting yourself others or your truck!!! Like I said don't take it wrong do the research and learn what you need to know, its all in the shop manuals and basic circuts. I will give you these two tips: 1) exhaust pipe rusts and makes a poor ground, you will need to provide an extra ground directly to the plug(s) to get consistent fire 2) A manual choke is a handy way of riching your mixture. There use those bits of handy info and the research you will conduct and I'm sure you can get it done
tongie, Please send me those instructions with the coil. I have read up on coils and such but i still need a little help. Could u please send me step by step materials that i need and what to do. You can email me them (crj900(No Email Addresses In Posts!)) or just post them on here.
Did you read my post? I won't give you those instructions, That is in incredible liability, If I were to give you that information and you used it improperly or got yourself or anyone else hurt I would be responsible. Every one has given you enough info this should start to make sense. I'm positive between all the posts here and the hot rod forum you should have it figured out. Your going to have to sit down read all the info and understand what it means! All that I could send you, if I would, is a schematic diagram of my circut, but if you don't understand how to read it, or all of the other info provided on this site your going to get HURT. Let me add this one last small peice of info. THEY ARE ILLEGAL!!!! Your a young man right? Do you think you will be able to keep out of trouble with this thing? Earlier posts mention that you need a new motor, this is going to not help that out! Its your truck, do what makes you happy. But I can't be the one to give this to you. I won't be responsible for the problems it will cause you
Dad (a 60's boy and born and bred motor head) told me this...
Yes, you do need a coil to make it happen. A momentary on switch, a push button if you will make it good. As for the gas, a simple electric fuel pump, turned ALL the way down, fed just ahead of the spark plug, will give you the fuel. If you buy a good switch (Cole-Hersee), you can wire both the coil and fuel pump together, that way they will only come on at the same time.

GOOD POINTS !!
I musta' got lost in all the posts in this thread, but did I understand that someone has made a spark across a plain ol' plug by just switching 12 VDC to it?
