Well, my truck is all wheel drive, so you can't change the tire size with the edge as of yet. This would explain why it would be shifting like it is. I will have to see what Edge thinks about what is going on, heck it might not even be compatible with my truck.

Hey Dex, How heavy is your 5th wheel. Have you had any issues with towing it with the HD F-150? I am in the market for a TT and I was doing some research. I currently am leaning towards a 28-31ft straight trailer. The GVW on the trailer is around 7500. Empty it only weighs about 6000. Let me know how you're making out with it. Thanks in advance!

4x4,

Our 26.5 ft 5th wheel is 800 lbs on the hitch and the trailer is 5000 lbs empty. I took the unit out this weekend through the Rocky Mountains and all and all the truck towed that size of trailer very well. There wasn't a hill that could slow me down in low gear and the 5th wheel hitch really helps to make the two units as one. There was a real head wind at times and I couldn't get the truck over 55 mph witch I’m sure was contributed to the height of the 5th wheel trailer. The truck averaged around 11us mpg. The fuel consumption witch is higher with the Harley because it is AWD is my issue with towing that weight of a trailer. I was still very impressed with how the truck towed but I can see now how a diesel would help with fuel consumption and power.

Thanks for the info Dex, 11 mpg isn't that bad considering you are AWD and towing the 5th wheel. My mom and dad tow a 40ft 5er with an 06 350PSD. Thier trailer is right at 16,000lbs. They have only had the 06 for a short time. Thier previous truck was a 95 250 with a PSD (7.3). They said the new truck is a night and day difference. Much smoother power and less jerking. He has the tow commander pkg on the 06 and is extremely impressed. I am not going that large or that heavy. I was just curious. Thanks for the info.

My folks have the 97 7.3 f250 and they tow a 27 ft 5th wheel. My father put the ford chip in to get more power, but still it doesn't compare to the 6.0. What mileage are your parents running on their PSD towing that monster of a trailer?

My old lady talked me out of the diesel, said it was too noisy and too rough she broke my heart so I ended up with the F150 not to mention the diesels are $10,000 more then the half ton. When ford puts the new diesel in their truck in 2008 I might be in the market a couple years after that (once they get the bugs out). Until then if I’m feeling rich I might super charge the engine but that still wont give the 5.4 the same torque that the diesels have.

They are getting 14-16 mpg towing. The new deisels are much quieter than before. Mom has her own business and on thier last trip she hooked up her lap top and with her wireless connection worked during the whole trip! She loved it. Dad is extremely happy as well as quite impressed. I told him now all he needed to do is get a programmer. He told me he couldn't imagine that truck with more power!
