What would cause the tranny not to shift out of first. It's an automatic 95 xlt and when around 3000rpms i have to let off of gas to get it to shift then it seems fine. Any ideas or thoughts on this subject greatly appreciated....

I had the same problem with second. When I checked the fluid it looked very burnt to me. I had the entire 16 quarts flushed and now it is fine. The fluid had only 12,000 miles on it ( Dr Nick's $3,000 rebuild, last time I do that).
I know you said you had your fluid changed, But did you have the entire thing flushed and the filter changed.
are you getting any error codes, or the "flashing o/d light"
Sticking solenoids are common causes of this and can be changed easily. There is also a few parts of the transmission that need to be polished after a rebuild that can cause this, but the are not easy to change.
If you are not getting any error codes, then I think your PCM is not trying to shift. This would indicate a sensor or PCM failure.
Didn't you get a PCM failure code a few weeks back?
Yes, I have the flashing od off light. Today my boyfriend put in a new tps unplugged the battery for 30 minutes test drove the truck od off light came back on. Yes, last week when the od light first appeared it gave me a code 513. PCM internal voltage something. We are getting nowhere while the truck still sits in the driveway basically undrivable, so i guess tomorrow i'll try to get it into a transmission shop, but I really wish I could figure this electrical deal out, because everything that been wrong seemed to have the word voltage somewhere. I just put a new battery in it Friday. Thanks for your reply Lori
I think you should replace the PCM (powertrain control module). This is the "Main" Computer for your car.
If you open up the hood and look on the firewall, Mounted on the engine side right where the glove compartment is you'll see a big wiring plug with a single bolt right through the center. if you loosen that bolt the computer sits right behind it (the computer looks about the same size and shape as a car radio).
at a minimum you should pull off the wiring harness to it and see if there is any corrosion on the terminals. (spray some dieletric grease on it to keep it clean)
they don't sell any new PCM's for your year anymore. the only sell rebuilts and then take yours back. it costs around $200.
Chances are the computer is bad itself. I know if you take it to a repair shop they will definetly replace the computer with that error code showing.
it only takes about 5 minutes to remove the computer and check for corrosion
if u havent fixed your problem yet / try following your vacuum line to your transmision, your problem probaly lies in the diaphram where the hose connects to the transmission.replace or clean and it should fix the problem.
