I have a 70 F100 302 V8 with manual steering.I found a 79 at a wrecking yardwith power steering. The 79 has a 351 and I wanted to know if the mounting brackets would work on the 302.Also is $125 a good price for the gear, pump, hoses, brackets and steering column?
James That is a fair price, and everything should bolt right up. You may have to change your column wiring, so I would suggest that you ID your wires before you start. Once you get your 2 left and 2 right blinkers IDed you can cut them and see which one stopped working. The signal swith is different in the 79 so you will have to rework the wires. It is fairly simple and you should be able to figure it out. I did when I upgraded to power steering and will have to do it again when I upgrade to my tilt column.

If that's a 351m in that 79, I'd take a very close look at the p/s pump brackets. I'm not so sure they'll bolt up to a 302.(I could be wrong, however....)
Good save there mk, Ford didn't put a 351W in a truck until the 80s. You cought me napping and thinking 351W.

No problem, John. Been caught many times myself. Amazing how humbling this forum can be for those of us who think we actually know enough Mr jm should also note that the firewall bracket is different between p/s and non p/s applications. mike
So what ya'll are telling me is if I can find some brackets for a 302 I should be alright? Also the other posts say that the steering shaft on the p/s is shorter vs non p/s.Can I use the shaft out of the other one and keep my column or do I have to change out the whole column?
A complete pump/bracket assembly from a 302 would be the easiest solution. It would be best to swap in the complete column from that 79 ( or any 67-79 with a/t and p/s). The parts don't mix and match very easily as the non p/s column is 4 inches longer.
can you supply details on the difference in the firewall bracket? after my swap, my non-ps bracket wouldn't bolt back up, and the one on the donor truck was already gone.
