i saw a power steering cooler that is at the junkyard which mounts to the power steering bracket is this piece a ford option in the 73 to 79 trucks and should i have gotton it.
I have never seen one on a Ford truck. I did however have one on a 91 Olds 88. It is just something else that leaked on that car. I removed it, bypassed it with high pressure hose and never noticed a difference. That car was loaded but I could'nt imagine the need for it.
the "need" for it is to help cool the power steering fluid, i actually removed my stock cooler and replaced it, behind the grill, with a larger tranny cooler. fluids dont hold up, work too well or last when they get too hot .....i have a cooler on all fluids except for the brakes, but i dont use them too much, just kidding
Theres one on my '74 f-350 Flat Bed. The only one I've ever seen. I have never looked to see if there is a ford part number on it. Now I'm interested. I'll check it out tomorrow.
i bought it it is pretty cool i also have the one on the frame but added this one it is only about 3 inches tall and cost me 8.00 bucks also got the upper mount alternator brackets
Yes, go for it. If you have the steel body power steering pump, the fluid gets hot easily so the cooler would be a good idea. Having a cooler on anything is always a good idea. Some motors have a small cooler that mounts atop or on the side of the a/c comp. It is easier to have because it doesn't use long lines like the frame cooler uses. If possible sometime get the newer pump style for your application (plastic fluid housing). It won't get hot as easy and is better on the power steering unit also.
I have had trucks with both the frame cooler, and the A/C mounted cooler.
my F-150 had both, but I added them, since it came without P/S.
my B-7000 has a coil wrapping the resevour for a cooler, but I intend to add a transmission style cooler ahead of the radiator this spring, same with my F-600(s).
