I've been using the brackets from 69-78 Lincoln Mark III's and or Mercury Grand Marquis w 385 engines& 70 T-bird w/385, or from 74 & up F & E Series, & S/B Chassis/ Cab & Chassis w/385.
What I usually do is take the whole set up, all brackets & pulleys from 1 specific vehicle and try to keep them as a set. Whatever vehicle I got it from is what I tell my customer it is, and that's what they'll need to get Belts for.
Having said that, there are cross overs, meaning some brackets/ pulleys are the same for all applications, I think a 3 shive crank bulley is one example of all being the same. Anyway Some Brkts are not, as are some A/C & Alt brackets. . . .THat's why I try for the whole set.
Everytime I run across a 385 in a salvage yard I grab the belt drive system with all brkts & pulleys & hardware as a set.
there really is no good factory bracket that fits your truck. the 4X4 swap makes the factory power steering stuff useless. i have seen some econoline van 460 stuff used but it really wasn't clean. L&L makes a kit but i made my own by splicing a truck PS pump bracket to a car bracket. i used the part of the car bracket that bolts to the water pump and then welded the upper half of a truck bracket (any engine size since you are cuting the lower half off) to it at an angle that allowed the pump to clear the frame rail and steering box. i also added a support strap on the back of the bracket down to one of the holes in the end of the head. this will not allow me to use a stock AC compressor setup but i don't have AC yet. hawkrod
