67-72 rare options

Discussions in a few threads have sidetracked recently to the topic of rare options. I have a 69 F100 Ranger and a lot of dealer and factory literature about them. Some of the options described I've never seen or even heard of outside of the brochure. Which of these 69 options have you seen (or do you have), and what other rare options for 67-72 vintage trucks are rumoured or confirmed to be out there?

- remote (cable operated) driver's mirror
- in-cab behind-the-seat tool/storage box
- "power pack" underhood gas powered generator
- "contractor special" package (tool boxes, power pack, badging)
- "farm and ranch special" package (with cargo boards and badging)
- bucket seats

Spotlights. You know, the kind on cop cars with the handle on the inside for aiming. Once looked at a ’72 F250 with a pair of ‘em and they looked like a perfect fit inside and out. Even had the Ford logo on the lenses. Owner said they were on the truck since new (dad’s old truck). Were they a dealer option?

I have seen spotlights on various 67-72's and would suspect a kit was available from the dealer but don't know for sure. A few years ago, I spotted the Farm/Ranch Special nameplates on a 69 and asked the owner about them. He pulled them off and gave them to me for five bucks A 70 F250 surfaced on the 61-79 list a while back with the original generator still intact. I believe they were a 5 horse Onan unit. mike

Also forgot to note that a guy in Thom's 67 registry has the original buckets in his Ranger. They look like Mustang seats with higher mounts.

I also had one spotlight on the drivers side in a '69 F250. It came from a farm implement dealer and looked factory, but I don't know.
I was 18 and thought it was sooo cool, still do, wonder what I'll think when I grow up?

The Dealer accessories which were available are found in a seperate brochure, called surprisingly enough the "Ford Accessories" Catalog. Lots of cool goodies in there.

Yeah, I've been trying to get some on eBay but I always get sniped, even by Mr. F!

67-72 rare options

My 69 Ranger was originally equipped with the remote driver's mirror. It's long gone but the holes still remain.

We have a behind the seat storage box. It goes in inplace of the gas tank. I didn't see the truck it originally came from so I don't know if the gas cap hole wasn't cut open in the truck that it came in. It is made of plastic and about the same size as the tank. If I can find where we put it I can take a digital picture of it.

I have a 1972 Ford Ranger XLT F100, and it has the behind the seat, lockable storage boxes. There is one box on each side, and they both lock with a key.
BTW, the truck has power steering, brakes, factory AC and am radio. No rust, garage kept, 69,000 miles. Auto, w/ 360. The interior is in really nice shape, except for the obligatory dash cracks. I paid $4500 in MN. I think I could get something in the area of $6500 in the summer. Thoughts?

Cool!!! Say, do you have a hole in the cab for the fuel filler that would have gone to the behind-the-seat tank or is it blank?

OK, I just looked at my '72, and there is no hole or blank out plate in the cab for the gas filler tube. I have just 1 gas tank, and it is under the box, just aft (2 feet or so) of the cab.

So I'm guessing that XLT Rangers in 1972 all had frame tanks, behind-the-seat cab storage boxes, and only 1 fuel tank.

Now wish me luck as I replace the master cylinder this weekend.....

Sorry, you guessed wrong.

Ford did not install frame-mounted tanks in all F-series trucks until 1973, when it moved to a wider frame. From 1967-72, frame-mounted tanks were an option. Beginning in at least 1969 (and perhaps earlier), you could order a frame-mounted tank in lieu of the in-cab tank, in which case the tool box in the cab replaced the tank. From 1967-72, you could also order the frame-mounted tank as an auxiliary, i.e., additional tank, in which case you had both the frame tank and the in-cab tank.

I've never personally seen a 67-72 without an in-cab tank, but I knew they were available. I'd say that you have yourself a pretty rare truck.
