Hey guys,
I have a 93 F150 I6 and the right front hub started getting hot.
If I drive the truck for about 15 minutes and then park it, put my hand on the hub I can feel its hot. Not hot enough to burn me but hot enough to think there is a problem. Any ideas as to what might be the problem or is that normal? It doesnt do it on the left side.
Also, when I turn the steering wheel all the way to the left or right and back up it makes a clicking sound in the front end.....
the clicking sound would lead me to believe you probably have a bad u-joint in the front axleshaft. i had the same problem. odds are, thats whats is causing the heat as well. you probably have a blown u-joint that has the axleshaft locked out of line, and its spinning at an angle, causing the excess friction in the hub and the clicking when you have the wheel over. sounds like its time to tear that hub apart and check it out. typically its an easy fix. just keep everything clean, you may need to replace the bearings if overly worn from the axleshaft, and make sure you haven't shaved the aluminum lockout portion, as the shavings will wreck havok on every bearing on that side of the truck if you don't replace and clean everything.
good luck, its not that bad...
Repack both the inner and outer hot bearing.....and hope it will be OK.
If not you could always get replacements.
Now if the spindle is all mucked up, your faced with filing down and living with it....or replacing the spindle....$$$.
Lesson: Preventive maintenance includes repacking bearings every 30,000 to 50,000 depending on your tolerance for risk.

Unfortunately, the truck was owned by my father in law from day one.
He did take good care of the motor, but the other items on the truck may have suffered a bit. Now I get to do all the work.
join the club, i got my truck from my dad, my bronco from my his dad. that was the only problem with the bronco when i got it, bad u-joint... or maybe it was the slip-joint... either way it got replaced and now she runs smooth and is safe in the winter.
I believe it may be the sticky break caliper.
Reason I believe this is today I could hear the caliper on that side make a slight noise when I let off the break......
