I put in my HPX from solid line yesterday and it went well but I had leaks after. I took my time and did the install carefully. Line and fittings looked good out of box. I made sure the old O ring came out with the plug. Oiled the O ring on the bosses and installed them carefully. Did not over tighten.
Fitted the line into both bosses carefully and tightened the line by hand. Went one additional turn with wrench. Not much oil to clean up at that point. Started it. Oil leaking bad from pass. side where line attaches to boss. Tighten half a turn and it to stopped the leak. Cleaned things up. Rain it to town and back. Looked at it and I had small leak where the lines attached to the bosses. I tighten line a quarter on each side but didn't want to go more then that. I cleaned things and will watch it this weak. I have since sent an e-mail to KCM where I got the line to get there thoughts. If the small leak persists I'm going to pull the line till I figure things out.
I had about the same thing you describe when I put my HPX in last month - I think it is just from the initial heating and cooling cycles. I had a very small leak about a week after I did it - and I loosened the fitting from the boss to the SS hose, tightened each boss slightly, cranked back down on the other fittings WHILE holding the boss fitting with another wrench, and no leaks at all since.
If I'm not mistaken - I have read more than one post about having to give the fittings a little "snugging" shortly after the initial install...
Will check the fittings to see if they need snugged up a bit.
I know the intention of the HPX line and that the results are seat of the pants. Most noticed a difference while others sense no change. Do most notice a difference right away or after the air has worked out of the system? For me it seems the same as before I added the HPX line with only 6 miles on it. I did notice last evening that it labored a bit more starting and I figure that was the air in the system as it got better with each start.
I don't know that I noticed a big difference with mine - but then again I did mine while I had the rig all torn apart installing my BB turbo and non-ebv stuff.... I've been all giddy listening to that thing whine, and haven't really noticed too much if it runs any smoother!!
When I installed mine, the trouble I ran into was lining it up on the driver's side and not cross threading. Maybe I just had trouble because I couldn't fit my hands in there very easily. Anyway, I did tighten mine a little more than what was recommended, and it hasn't leaked a drop since. I did use some LocTite on the line thread into the boss.
I had the rubber hose HX line for a while, and that one kept leaking no matter what I did. I did notice a difference in craftsmanship between the SS KCM line and the other one that I had.
I guess I got lucky when I put mine on. I tightened it up like I do everything else, maybe a little tighter than I should but could of tightened it more and so far haven't had any leaks after a couple of thousand miles. One thing I had to do was to tweak the radius a little as it seemed a tad to long and I was getting tired of fighting it.
the engine does seem a bit smoother now and it is a little quieter on idle.
