Its been awhile since Ive been that far into one, I looked at my cheep chilton cd to refresh my memory. I know there is one timing mark on the face of the crank gear, if you rotate the crank you will see it come up. Next I believe there are two marks on the cam gear 180 apart, one mark is on the tooth the other (180 across) is between the teeth. only one mark will match up to the crank mark the other will be one tooth off.
Once the crank and cam marks are allinged the mark on the ip gear must be matched up to the other mark on the cam gear. I remember this is the tricky one because you have to have the gear in the housing when you match it up (to hold the gear in place) Once the housing is bolted down the gear cant jump timing even though it just flops around in the housing. Hopefully this will get you started untill someone else checks in with some other tips

It sounds like you removed the ip with it attached to the housing, remove four bolts and pick the whole thing off, housing pump and lines etc. If thats what you have you need to take the pump off the gear/housing? Remove the oil filler, there will be three little bolts that hold the ip tp the gear, remove two bolts that hold the pump to the housing, now you can pull the pump from the housing (pump to gear timing is fool proof it will only go together one way, you mite want to mark the pump to housing position if it doesnt already have one) and the ip gear will be free.
Now set the ip gear on the cam gear being sure to line up all the marks stamped on the face of the gears. If I remember right I had to hold the ip gear with one hand and set the cover in place with the other.
Its a pain but since you have the front apart you should be able to line up all the timing marks guarenteeing correct timing.
Although at his site http://www.members.shaw.ca/k2pilot/ I think he has a way to time the pump using the internal pump timing mark and the tdc mark on the harmonic balancer which you could use but if the gears are in site then I would try to use them
