the valley pan doesn't look like it is wet but will check it. the bleed hole you are talking about will still mean a pump change right?

The pump that makes the valley pan wet is the injection pump, the one on the side of the block is really called a lift pump however it is the same thing as a gasser fuel pump. They both have weep holes. If your sure of the diesel smell from the oil go ahead and change the lift pump, its not expensive.Really if it was the injection pump leaking there would be a very strong smell of fuel under the hood as well as in the cab.

it doesn't have a diesel smell at all under the hood.but the oil thing has really got me baffeled. i am going through my mine and i can not see me over filling the oil like that. if the pump diaphram blows out and leaks fuel onto the oil then this would explain the low oil pressure at ideal and the smoke from start up. i have parked it for the night and will order the pump in the morning. god i hope this is it.

Good luck with it and dont run it with that fuel and oil mix, like i said it will kill the internals (bearings, etc),change that oil ASAP.

ok........i just got done changing out the fuel pump and oil. drove it for a while and it is not smokeing as much as it was. don't know if it is because of the oil change. i did turn the idel down to where it is suppose to be and i am not losing oil pressure like it was. the more i drive it seams to smoke less but it is not covering the car behide me like it was. i guess drive it for a while and some more diesel kleen to see if it cleans it up. got to do some running around in town cause i don't want to take it out of town and get stuck. i will keep you updated and thanks.

yeah...... i was thinking just that. i just got back from my running and it ran find no smoke or nothing.........until i was a block away from the house. stop at a light and it started to puff smoke like it use to. got it home and rev up the gas and it quit. i guess it was maybe blowen some more stuff out cause it didn't last as long as it use to. got the diesel kleen in there so hopefully it will clean it all out.

Well Rich, I had the same problem as you did about a week or so ago. I replaced the o-rings on the low pressure bleed off side and thought that my low idle roughness was from a bad recirc. cup. So, as any equiptment mechanic would do, I started bleading line preassure off of the injectors to see if any of them were backing up, or blowing off. Nothing. Still ran horrible! Went through 3 tanks with double bottles of diesel kleen. So, I noticed that the trans was not shifting right and the tach didnt work right. I replaced the tach sensor. That fixed my trans shifting problems. Coming home from doing a side job one night, I was on the hiway outside of town crusing at about 80mph and BANG!!!!!!! Blew the front off the muffler. Next day, took the muffler off......it was FULL of carbon. I hadnt noticed my EGT's any higher than normal, but I did notice how HARD the exhaust coming out of the tail pipe was. Since I got the truck about a month ago for FREE and it didnt run right when I got it, I had no idea that the muffler would be plugged. So, in retrospect.......have you checked your muffler yet to make sure your engine can breath?

Thanks, Kyle

Just a thought, I had one I was checking out, It idled terrible, smoked bad and ran rough. Long story short, the problem ended up being the mechanical advance on the injection was stuck in the advanced position. Its the lever on the drivers side of the ip directly opposite the throttle linkage, if you move the throttle back and forth, "engine off" you should see it move in and out, it rides on a cam, has a pivot point half way down the pump and pushes on a plunger at the botton of the pump. Mine was rusted at the pivot point, I sprayed it up and worked it for a long time before it freed up.

When you changed injectors were they new ones put in or used?White smoke is usually air in the fuel system, running rough could be an injector. Are there any strange noises like a woofing from the exhaust or a chugging from the intake, that would be signs of valve trouble which could account for the rough idle. Some white smoke on start up is normal when its cold out.

the injectors where rebuilt from napa. when it first started having all the trouble it was chugging from the intake. but it don't do this any more. it don't smoke at all at start up and it has been in the low 50s here in southern il. it starts smoking after you run it for a while. work is 20 miles from my house and it will start smokeing when i get there. it starts fine and i have no problem with it until i run it for awhile. i shut it down and let it sit for awhile and go out to start it and it does find. just after i use it for awhile is when it start smoking.
