Hi all - I could use a little help. I have been having the blinking "off" overdrive problem with the hard shifting. Searched the old threads on this topic. I went to Aoto Zone and got there OBD II Scanner and drove around until light started blinking. Then I pulled over hooked up scanner and got code
PO174 system to lean - Bank 2
Looking up Ford codes on web 174 is "Oxygen sensor was slow in switching
Single, Right, or Rear HO2S - Fuel control"
My question is could this particular code be related to the blinking "off" light and hard shifting or is related to something else?
As a side note the only way I can get the code to show on scanner is to drive as above then shut off motor and turn key on as quickly as possible then hook up the scanner. If I turn key off then hook up scanner and wait for it to load up then turn key to on and check codes - as instructions say to do - I get no codes. Thanks for any advice.
Uh, Oh. I hope this isn't true in your case, but I had the same exact problem with my 02 ranger which ended up resulting in a fried tranny (which was quite an expensive repair). Fortunately, my company footed the bill for the rebuild since I use it for work (good trade for making it wear ugly stickers). It ws intermittent at first, then it became more frequent until it was constant. also, some times when I was doing a lot of stop and go, after I applied the brake and came to a complete stop, and then let off to resume forward motion, the tranny would (seemingly) stay disengaged until I hit about 2grand on the tach, then it would slam into first. I would suggest getting it looked at asap (cause I don't know how to fix trannys). I am hopeful that someone else here has more experience with fixing them than I do with breaking them. - sorry- jeff.
That code won't make the OD light flash. You have more codes, and just found out that the readers that Autozone uses will not read Ford trans codes. You need to use a better scan tool to find out what's wrong.
