My '01 PSD excursion's 4r100 transmission started giving me fits. It started with shifting hard from 1st to 2nd at high Rs then the OD light started blinking. I used my OBD-II scanner but it said that there were no codes. Did I scan it correctly? Is there a different connector other than the one under the driver's side dash? Is there a special way to pull the codes when its a transmission problem? I'm stumped...
There are more safistacated scanners on the market that may be able to pull the codes. However it sounds to me that you may want to take it to a transmission shop and have it diagnosed. Once you are able to clear the codes the transmission may revert back to shifting properly. But that will not cure the problem if there is one. The transmission shop will be able to narrow the problem down.
Say it ain't so. I was hoping that someone else had seen the same problem andit turned out to be the speed sensor or something minor. If the OD light blinks shouldn't the Check Engine Light (MIL) also turn on?
Try running the codes on it again. I have a diablo predator reprogrammer that picked up the code at once, where my mechanics could not read it. It ended up being the torque converter clutch selenoid pack, 224 bucks and easy install. I had the same symptoms you had, even the flashing light. My predator had paid for itself just with this, it tells me even the exact code and what the code is in detail. Pretty cool gadget plus gives you tha POWER.
Spitball, thanks for the good news. I'm hopeful that my problem is that simple. Did your check engine light come on as well as the flashing OD light? I've borrowed absecond scanner and it also says that there are np codes.
stroken444, After not being able to pull any codes, I took it to a shop where they plugged their MT2500 Snap-On scanner to it. There were at least 4 error codes. Are some analyser/scanners better than others? I ended up having the transmission rebuilt and a new billet torque convertor put it. So far we've put 1500 miles on it and we're very happy with the work. The trans has firmer shifts. Lets hope this transmission will go farther than 62000 miles this time. I dropped $3500 on this tranmission and torque convertor and I'd hate to have to do that again any time soon.
Hi,
I have a 2001 F-250 7.3 powerstroke diesel and my overdrive button was flashing after i worked it alittle when i had to pull my wife out of the snow. The trans temp was about 134 degrees so i let the truck sit for about ten minutes to cool down then turned it off and back on to see if it changed and it did. The light stopped flashing. Did i just over heat it or is something seriously wrong?
Thanks

It happened to me a couple years ago. Like you no codes when I took it to the tranny shop. Did it again shortly after I had the tranny fluid changed at the dealer. Went back to the tranny shop and they suggested that the dealer was power flushing and moving chit around in my tranny. They dropped and cleaned the pan, changed the filter and refilled. No problems since then.
