Ball joint poll

Curious who has replaced ball joints on their 99-06 SDs. If so what mileage was on the truck and what made you notice the problem? What did you do for replacements? Factory or aftermarket?

I won't vote yet because neither of my SDs have had over 27k miles on them.

Ihave 57,000 on a 02 f250 ,and I run a plow in the winter.
But when I'm done plowing for the day the plow is dropped.

'02, they were shot at 40k, and it's got 87k on it now.

I've got the balljoints, hubs, bearings, seals, the shole sha-bang, I just don't have the time to do it!!

I just had to replace mine at 42K or so. I'm not going to complain too much though, it is the first problem I have had in the 3 1/2 years I've owned the truck. Just wish it would have happened under warrenty. Anyway, that is still far too soon in my opinion.

Arrow On 3rd set

According to an Oasis report the upper and lower ball joints were changed at 35,400 miles in 2004...which is right before the warranty.

I purchase my 2003 SD last November 2005 with 87,000 miles. I took it into the local dealer for a "once" over (90,000 mile scheduled maintenance) and they found the ball joints bad. Plus other stuff...(heck it is a Used vehicle)...

Replaced with OEM ball joints...both upper and lower. The way I use and drive this truck...they should last me a LONG time.

Total:
2003 SD upper / lower ball joints has been replaced 2 times. On 3rd set now.

Replaced completely wore out left sides at 57K but they showed signs of serious problems at 40K. Right sides had some wear but not alot. Left and right were replaced at 57K.

Bought my 99 used, two years of plowing wasted the ball joints at 60.000 miles. My 03 at 40,000 and 1 mild plowing year... already clunking.

Mine crapped out around 120,000 miles, and I put Moog's in. Been fine ever since, but my tie rods are flaky now. Lift and biggere tires wore them out I reckon...
