Headliner removal help E350

Is there a tool to help remove the plastic tabs that hold up the headliner? I would guess that it would look like a small forked crowbar.

I want to pull the headliner to insulate the roof, and I am very good at busting the tabs when I try, so any suggestions would be helpful!

Just be diligent. Pry enough with a flathead screw driver to get you fingers and/or pliers all the way under. Then, just wiggle/twist as you pull down. Use more twisting/wiggling than force until you get it out 1/2 an inch or so. Then, the rest is easy. If you want to get fancy, you could probably make your own tool by taking a sturdy fork and bending/breaking or cutting off the middle two forks. I've removed lots of these w/o breaking any. If it's cold when you're doing it, you may want to be more careful, or get the interior warmer. Good luck.

Thanks for the thoughts, I have about a 90% unbroken removal rate in the past, but can always use another tool!

I'll start checking the supply stores....

Sure enough Autozone had the tool! took a few of the employees to brainstorm before they found it but all is well!
