My 92 E150 5L has developed a rough idle the last month or so. It is rough when cold or hot (more when cold) and drives fine when given the gas. Other than a tuneup, what could be giving these engines a rough idle or what sensors control the idle? She has 240,000 km on the engine and is well maintained. Thank you.
iac-idle air control valve...it should be located near or on the throttle body and is held on by two screws...when removing try to save the gasket and clean it out....tune-up sounds like a good idea as well as a good wot run to clean out the egr
Also intake manifold gasket leak. Can let unmetered air in, some cylinders more than others, making it shake around, generally a high idle.
Check for vac line leaks, particularly above the passenger side exhaust manifold and the "coffe can" vac reservoir behind the starting battery.
