Ok i know its not a ford but need a little help,
I have a 1980 Motor home that has a dodge 440( i think ) in it. the problem i have is that when i press the gas pedal more then 3/4 of the way down i lose all power, i mean ALL POWER, it loses lights, Radio, and kills the motor after i lift up on pedal a little it usually starts running again.
I do not know how the gas pedal would even connect with electric power but something is going way wrong with it.
This problem started after i have put about 100 miles on it, I bought it used and have only had it on one trip, It did not act funny on the way to my trip, but did start just as i started to head home.
If i feather the gas peddle i can get up to speed such as 65-70 mph and not have a problem til i mesh down on peddle ( to pass someone or climb hill) then the power ( ELectric and gas) both die out then resume power if i lift up one peddle.
Any help is surely appreciated,
Thanks Chris
sounds to me like the throttle linkage has chafed a wire somewhere. I would try to inpsect the linkage under the dash and under hood. activate it and see if it touches any wires.
Thanks to all for your help, It turned out that the LInkage was sliding back into a wire that had about 3/8 bare wire between the connector and the plastic wire cover.
Thanks again
Chris
