Honestly it never even occurred to me to check the amp draw....I always carry a few spares, so I think I'll leave the stock fuse in place for now.

Spent most of the day today at the park with the wife and kids (drove the minivan ), so I didn't get any more info...Been flushing and filling the radiator since I've been home, so it'll be tomorrow before I get to drive it again.

Did manage to snap a couple of pics.

I just finished doing the same basic thing to mine about 10 minutes ago and just got back from the test drive. I used the holley red pump mainly because I had one sitting here, and decided to go prefilter on mine because the pump itself has a screen in the inlet for the really big stuff then through the 75 micron filter and onto the factory pump.
Well not real sure on whether it quited it down any although it does seem like it (the prepump fuel line already did a pretty good job on that so it's marginal how much difference it makes there) But like you cookie I did notice it is really blowing the black smoke off the line. Also to check it for performance gains I have a little area marked off on the street coming up to my house and with no mods except the bigger exhaust it would pull that distance at 34mph, then with the kwik filter and predator tuner set on 60hp I could pull this at 40 best speed, with no other changes I can now pull it at 42 (if I can keep traction). Also I don't have the relief valve to the map sensor yet so I still get the code for overboost before I would have to hit atleast 3/4 throttle and hold it now half throttle in second and it comes on almost instantly (within 3-5 seconds when pulling a slight grade with a little heavier than normal foot) Sorry don't have a boost gauge installed yet so can't give actual boost numbers.

I might later I have got some other things I plan on doing to the truck first and I have 2 other really big expenses right now. First I want a garage I can actually get my trucks into so I can work on them, and second the race truck is killing my budget this year I am about $2000 over what I had planned on spending for this year so far and still don't have everything plus i just found out fuel for it went up to $7.15/gal.

Nice. The only thing's I can think of for why mine got quieter is either I'm better filling the injevtors that might be leaking, or the primary filter was releasing entrained air into the fuel....which might also explain whe I have failng injectors with a full fuel system.

Now that u mention that i was wondering if installing a T with a pressure snubber and a return line to the fill neck, kinda like a FASS, would do any good.
Cookie don't u mean "releasing entrained air FROM the fuel"(like a FASS or Air Dog) and then having that released air pushed thru your injectors? There's a good diagram on the workings of the Air Dog at ITPdiesel.

I guess I meant both. Released from the fuel as air into the fuel. Still, with the fuel rails opened up in the heads it should not have been getting to the injectors anyway.

I was a little worried abut the o-ring on te seperator bowl too, but no issues there. Seems to work just fine under a little pressure. Will take some time to see if it's still seperating like it should.

Thought I would update on this just a little, I have taken the truck for about a 30 mile drive today and with the new prepump, pump it's getting quiter now than it was yesterday so I am thinking that I still had some air in the system from cracking it open to install the pump. at this point running at cruise on flat ground I can actually hear the air through the air cleaner over the engine in the cab with the window rolled up, this is not at full throttle or even accelerating but just flat level ground.
Also on my little trip I have one hill that is pretty long and fairly steep and last week when I made this trip (and everytime before)) when I had my cruise set at 63mph it would kick down out of OD about 2/3 of hte way up the hill today it never kicked down at all just went right over the top without a problem or slowing down at all. I am thinking that possibly this little mod will help the trucks pull a grade better and stay with it without downshifting as much. Now I am gonna be interested to see what it does when pulling an actual load

Good news Monster! Supports Cookie's findings about more power.

wish I had a chassis dyno close by to try it both with and without to see just how much it really changes things.
Also makes you wonder how much we are hurting the factory pumps without a lift pump or how much the factory pump isn't reaching it's potential like my origanal question on the filters bieng too much of a restriction.

Makes me want to mount the main pump down inside the fuel tank on the end of the pickup. It would be very easily done and the main sticking point would be how to run the power wires to it without making a leaky mess.
Yes you can submerge the pumps. They operate by pumping fuel straight through themselves anyway using the fuel as a lubricant. It's not going to care if there is air or fuel on the outside.

Interesting idea Kwik. You going to give it a try? Maybe a little RTV to seal the hole for the wire.

Probably wouldn't need sealant. The tanks are already vented to atmosphere. Probably could snke the wires down through the existing vent tube.

Just wondering about some of the OBS style trucks, on my dads 91 w/351, we replaced both intank pumps. So wondering based on that, if those same pumps could some how be adapted to put in the tank on ours. That would really make a clean and stealthy install.
