Wow, Pat... you need to shop around... machine work shouldn't be more than around $600, including balancing... my last block (400 V8) cost $604, that was boring, pressing the pins, grinding the crank, polishing the rods, balancing the rotating assembly, and cleaning and painting the finished block.

My $5000 budget includes (and probably limited to) Engine rebuild, or new engine, possible rebuild to tranny or put in a T5 (if I keep the 5.0 or get a 5.8). Rear gearing, new driveshaft, possible supercharger.
