Keyless Entry?

Again, I'm new to Ford trucks, and I'm still getting familiar with my 98 EB 5.4 4x4.

I bought my truck from a not so reputable used car dealer, and I received only one key, and no remotes. I don't have the keypad on the driver side door, but there is a THEFT light that illuminates on the dash when I'm starting it.

I've been told that keyless entry either with a keypad, or by remote control was standard on Expeditions, is this a true statement? If I buy a couple of remotes, how do I program them to my truck??

Hello, I also have a 98 EB 5.4 4x4 Expedition, from what you've said yours is just like mine. The Theft light is just that, it's so no other key that has not been program for your vehicle can not be used. About keyless remote control being standard on Expeditions is not true. Only if you have a key pad on the drivers side door under or over your drivers side handle then you have a keyless remote. You can buy another key and program it yourself on a 98 EB. Search this site and your find other posts on how to program your new key.
Good Luck

I found out that my truck actually does have keyless entry. GI, just before you posted that reply, I brought the truck to a dealer and told him that if he can program a keyless remote to my truck, that I'd buy the remote and pay for the programming. He happened to have one in stock so he tried it and it worked. $41 later I have keyless entry. He told me that the majority of Expys do have keyless entry in one form or another....either by keypad or remote control. I was pleasantly surprised.

Great, thats a new one on me. Looks like I'll be going down to Ford just to check to see if mine has one also.

All you have to do is call your VIN number into the ford dealer and they can tell you if it has keyless entry installed or not. Buy the remotes off Ebay it will save you about $20 per remote.

To program on my 01 Expy you turn the key on and off 8 times in 10 seconds and leave it in the on position the last time. The locks should go up and down. Then hit the lock button on the remote and the locks should go up and down again. IT'S PROGRAMMED! Pretty easy.

keb, if you get a second key i don't think you'll be able to program it yourself because you'll need two keys that are already programmed to your vehicle. You may need to have the dealer program a new key if you get one. At least that's what I had to do and I think I read it here on the forum somewhere.

Early 98's only need one key to program the second key. Late 98's have to have 2 keys. Mine only needed one.

Here is a good idea to keep an extra key and a remote for your truck. This is a cool accessory to add to any truck. We have a new patented product called the Hitch Safe Key Vault that fits into most 2 inch receiver hitches. This allows you to store a spare key inside the receiver hitch that can only be accessed using your own personal 4 digit code. You will never be locked out of your truck again. We have complete videos on our web site showing how it works and how to set the combination. We currently have a promotion on our site giving one away for free. All you need to do is visit our site and register to be qualified for the give away.

Feel free to share the contest with your friends.

Thank You
