I am wanting info on newer push button transfer cases, I have a 78 stepside with a 351 clevland, 2 wheel drive and I would like to put in a transfer case so that I can run 2.75's on the street and effectively have 5.50's at our 1/8 mile track. Has any one actually tried this, I would love to hear from you, TB&SS
well, they are a pain. alot of people dont like them becuase the servos go out. if woul be easier to make a np205 fit in there because with a change of the tail shaft it would bolt up to your tranny and it would be a crap load stronger and the electric cases dont have a 2:1 low range they have mor like a 2.6:1 (i really aint too sure) and would put your gearing way to low somethin like 7.15, but the 205 does have a 2:1. doin all that would give you about 300 more lbs also.
Thanks for the reply on transfer cases. I certainly do want a 2:1, if elect.'s are out a stand alone manual or a bolt up will have to do. I've been told there are like three tail shafts it could be. How hard is it to change them out? I presently have 3 C6"s but none of them are for a 4 wheel drive
I am happy to say Yes it is actually a 351 Clevelnd with 4 bbl heads, someone else built it. I just bought it already done. It has an MSD ign. system Performer intake, Performer carb, Headers, shift kit and I'm not shure on the inside of the motor what has been done. I would really like to know where they got the headers since Trucks never came with 351 clevelands. Any guesses?
From my experience in the dealership electronic T-cases are crap. Anyhew in order to change the c6 tailshaft you will have to tear the tranny down to the low-reverse clutch area in order to get to the snap ring which holds the tail shaft into the transmission.
doing any thing internal to the trans is probaby more than I want to do. It's much more likely that I will buy a trans with a transfer cxase and make a complete swap or buy a stand alone transfer case though I'm not sure what they came in or how common they are. never the less it was good to here from you ,thanks
the divorced cases came mostly in 70s f-250s i think they swtiched from the dana case to the 205 (stronger gear driven case) in 74 but im not 100% sure on that. but i think the yoke is not right on the 2wd tranny or something along those lines.
