Well when You change a tire and go to a bigger size the speed or the amount of turns the driveshaft spins to turn a bigger wheel is different, so when you go to a taller ratio you can make the motor rpms match what they used to be with the stock tires giving you more power and and better mileage. The rule of thumb i have always heard is you get most of it back minus about 10% due to the new added wheel weight and aerodynamic drag. Unless of course your truck is gigantic with 44's

I agree but those 235/85 tires are tall (31.7 in). How much rpm gain do you think moving up to a 33.2 in. tall tire?

I believe there may be some confusion about tire sizes.

LT235/85-16
LT = light truck
235 = width of the tire in millimeters, a 255 is wider than a 235 by 20 millimeters
85 = ratio of height to width (85% of width or 75% of width, an 85 is a taller tire than a 75)
16 = diamter of wheel in inches

A taller tire will lower your rpm which should help improve your fuel mileage unless you are running a wider tire too which may cause more drag. A shorter tire will raise your rpm at the same speed resulting in lower fuel mileage.

Keep asking silly questions and you might learn something arouynd here.

31.7in tall is the hieght of tire i am running right now. BFG commercial TA 235/85/16. Im looking for taller RPM lowering tires.
