With a stock F350CC do the 285-75-16 tires look overstuffed on the truck without a lift or are the 265-75-16 tires a better fit.
I will be putting the tires on the OEM alloy rims.
I want to go wide but not kill my MPG, rub or look goofy.
Also, are the alloy wheels the same width as the stock steel rims.
I have 265-75-R16 (31.6 X 10.4) tires on my F-250. They are a hair smaller in height than the 235-65-r16 (31.7 X 9.3) that came stock on the truck, but an inch wider. The F-350s have a lot more room because of the taller blocks in the rear, and taller springs up front. The 285 (32.8 X 11.2) might be a good fit but I dont know about the clearance issues. As for my stock alloy rims I want to say they are 7 inches wide.

I have 255/85/16's on mine which are basically the same as 285/75/16's. They look perfect on the truck. This is the size tire they should have come stock with not the 235/75/16. I'll be putting 285/75/16 on mine in the next month or two. I have 3.55 gears in mine so it doesn't like overdrive when pulling my 9000# travel trailer so I don't use OD when towing much but otherwise it drives good. Also there is plent of room with the 285/75/16. No rubbing. I had chains on all four this past November when I was elk hunting in 18" of snow. Plenty of clearance.
I run 285's because I think the 265's look dinky. They don't rub and don't look oversized. they actually look like they're supposed to be on the truck. Check my gallery

Mplayer, i cuss those 410 gears when not pulling or hauling but im smiling when i do. I think a 265-85-16 would be a good tire to find alothough i havent seen any.
Cooper has a good ST255-85-16 thats 33.2 tall but not as wide as i would like.
I'll bet you like those 410's when towing. I cuss the 3.55's when I am. Wish it was just a little lower geared, like 3.73 would be good. My truck tows fine but isn't as good going up long steep grades with the trailer on. The mod bug is going to take affect really soon

They will work for you. I have 285/75/16 Coopers on mine with aftermarket rims which offset maybe 1" more and it is close but work fine, even with the plow on.

If the OEM alloy wheels are 7in. the tire guys dont want to put 285/75/16 tires on them. To narrow they say.
Does anyone have 285's on them?
Im not sure how wide they actually are.
I have a f-350 with 4.10's & a stick with stock alloy rims and run 285 75 16's they fit just fine no rubbing at all. They look perfect on the truck and not to big on the rims. I'm thinking of puting 305 75's on next time, maybe even 315 75's with aftermarket rims and a little fender triming.
I have an F250 with 355's and 285/75/16's on it with with four inches of lift. my mileage is really suffering bot they do fit quite well on stock 7 inch rims. no rubbing problems at all. I plan on changing the gears to 4.10s to try and recover my mileage and some power only getting 12-14mpg ewwhh.
i have 4.10's and 33 bfg's and a calibrated speedo that is very accurate. i get 14 mpg. i think our trucks look awesome leveled and 35's. thats what im doing when these tires wear out.
I have the stock alloy rims and the 285's fit fine. I will admit though, when I put 285's on my 98 Z71 they did hurt performance and milage unless I really maxed out the pressure at 65psi. On my real truck I run the 285's at 52psi, and with the diesel there has been no noticable difference to either one.
