With all the talk about the "new" 6.4 diesel engine coming out in the 2007-8 truck I got to wondering what is going to happen to the V10. Has anyone heard if it will get another power jump, displacment on demand, etc.?
Nebraska... I search for new info every week... Best I can figure is that Ford is hevily working towards more fuel effeciency and flex fuel capabilities... I have a gut that Ford will not do any "significant" power train changes for the 2007s. I believe the 2008 will also keep current tow haul and power levels but maybe those little annoying claims of "best in class" based on .5 mpg better, or 10 20 HP higher, or higher rated frame and axle capacities.
My personal recommendation is to look for excellent buy in prices for the late 2006 trucks and jump on one of the best trucks Ford ever produced. I doubt there will be any compelling reason to wait for the 07/08 changes except fuel effeciency and I pray every day they do not screw up an already exceptional machine just to be able to claim 15 mpg. What ever they do, the V10 will never get much above 16MPG and certainly not towing.
Sorry Nebraska...Nothing unique or extraordinary about my King Ranch.
Here in Texas I gets very hot and I usually opt for the White paint even though it is NOT may favorite color. This is also one of the first trucks that had 95% of all the necessary and functional features that mean something to me. So I have NOT done any modifications worth photographing.
I upgraded to the sound system. I added "one touch down" for the passenger window to both the driver and passenger switches. I did my variation of the ZooDad mod to the front air intake. I had a custom headache rack welded up (mostly for my Amateur radio antennas). I had the bed spray lined, the headache rack same material, and the rear inner fender wells also sprayed. I took out the flip over foot cargo rack steel shelving to make room for amplifiers for the Ham radios and stereo under the rear bench. I added back in the lights on the front doors that Ford omitted and I modified the two rear doors to have the lights also. I made my dealer put back on the rear inner fender splash and rock guards and the under hood insulation blanket. I put on a set of "Weather Tech" window Vent Shades. I bought an aux oil cooler and oil temp gage for the auto trans but never put them on. On my 01 truck with the 4R100 trans I know that an aux oil cooler is required for heavy towing. But my Max GCVW maiden voyage with the 2005 up to Tall Colorado Mountain passes (10,000+ foot elevations) proved to me that the Factory oil cooling system on the 5R110 TorqShift is good enough for what I do.
Bottom line sir is that I never changed enough of the stock truck to take any pictures of her. Visually she is a plain Jane hard working truck.
No lift planned, no wicked rims, no tall/wide tires, no unique badges or stickers..no intake , exhaust or chip. Not considering a blower or nitrous..I have considered a set of true lockers for both differentials but now that I sold one of my harder to get too hunting/fishing properties, I feel confident that the stock 4x4 and ESOF system is adequate for the other short range off road travel I now do.
For me and my family it is the perfect truck. But it is not eye candy by any stretch.
Here is another thought some of you out there might consider (this is NOT a shot at any particular person or group). I am an older fart now. I still love to compete. I enjoy smoking the tires. I get a lot of fun out of non hostile spontaneous racing. I do not need any attention from the Police. I learned that loud vehicles are police magnets. This includes visually loud as well as screaming exhaust and booming speakers. My rubber is all over many streets within a 25 mile radius of where I live. Several of the young studs that challenged the mighty V10 (and Lost) also got a ticket for racing, exhibition (smoking tires), or speeding....what is funny is the cop passed ME and my Plain Jane Truck to chase them down. No way the cop would think that the Giant, unobtrusive, quite, Four Door, long bed, stock looking truck was the antagonist. Even when he saw first hand the swiftness of acceleration this 7800lb beast can demonstrate. BSEG indeed!

No the cop was most likely was laughing his but off because a old fart (I'm one to) kicked their butt with stock looking truck and its more fun the give a ticket to a stud than a OLD FART with BSEG.
I did manage to have one of my indiscretions be observed by Mr Law and he got him a two fer that day.
When he inquired about why I was SO amused? I calmly retrieved my license, registration, proof of insurance, and the flimsy copy of my citation and replied... eh. only $74 dollars... worth it. And drove on down the road (only then considering how much I needed to embellish the story to make my wife not be so menopausal with me......Grin).
dont expect anything unless the competition steps up...i heard toyota might have something in the 400 hp range but i doubt it...lastly, they want to sell diesels and the newest v10 has a lot of people thinking and when the new 6.4 comes out with worse mileage and higher cost they r going to keep the v10 were it is at so the diesel will look somewhat attravtive at im guessing $7k
