I just got back from a 700 mile round trip drive in my truck. I averaged about 11.75 mpg but was driving 70-80 mph. There was quite a bit of wind, mainly was a crossing or quartering wind. I'll tell you what, the V10 will pull any hill (kansas and nebraska) against the wind without downshifting. I had the cruise set at 80 for awhile, turning around 2700 rpm, and the v10 was just roaring along. My gosh, you just touch the throttle to pass and it would go.
I only have around 3900 miles and 80 hours on the truck, so I hope the mpg will get better as it breaks in. As a side note, for 45 minutes I drove thru a white out condition blizzard. The snow was really dry and the road didn't get too slick so I kept a good speed. When I got home, the air filter was dry. I was a little worried about the zoodad mod, but snow doesn't seem to be a problem.
Welcome to the club. Better go out and buy a new toothbrush so you can get those perly whites sparkeling. You will be showing them a lot. BSEG time!
All the V-10 guys on this site already know what you are talking about. That Super Duty with the V-10 and the 4.30 gearing is simply awsome, and there isn't another competing gas powered truck on the market that can touch it. Ford really has delivered on all counts with this combination in their SD trucks. The only thing we all would like to see is 20 mpg, but hey, the thing weighs as much as two Ford 500's, and will run down the road at 80 mph no sweat, so what do you expect? It takes horsepower to do that, and fuel makes horsepower.
