"Beemer Nut" - WOW!!! I feel guilty. My '93 RRC LWB is still basically stock other than removing the EAS and putting OME HD springs on it and Trxus 235/85 MT tires. It goes anywhere the "heeps" and other rigs I wheel with. I am hoping Jeff can get one of these new Rovers out on the trail as I would like to see what they will do. Good luck with yours!!!

Darren, you may call them "heeps" I call the newer like 70 up JunkHeaps but not the older ww2 like the 42 I have, it's 100% stock tires included and has gone more places on the ranch than a friends D2. We had to pull that turd out many times stuck in the mud as well couldn't turn on the tight narrow Jeep roads we have made the last 35 years. The 53 Jeep the brother inlaw has runs a Chebbie 4 (156") the one Merc has in their boats, now he has it lifted 4" with alot of other trick things, all function no shine. He goes on them 4 x 4 lets see how stuck you can get rally adventures and by far he'll leave Rovers stuck when the trail just beginning to be fun. Not to sound rude but please BS with other Rover yuppie owners who think they have the best off road vehicle when they aren't. That's why i'll never take my D1 off road, too tall, long, heavy and expensive besides expensive replacement parts should you break anything, they have parts that fail just on their own, it's not a Rover of the 50's. Not to start a flame war, JMO's and observations over the the last 45 years off roading with the family.

"Beemer Nut" - Sorry if I offended you, but even the Jeep owners I wheel with call them Heeps and I thought you would have gotten the joke considering you seem to know a lot about Rovers. After all where did they come from? What was their orgin? And where did I say they were the best off road vehicle? There is no such thing. Different vehicles excel in different terrain. That is why I like to wheel in different clubs to see what works where. None of us are brand loyal and all kid each other on how our rigs are muts due to the mixture of parts in them from different brands. That is why I want Jeff to bring out a new Rover or even a new Beemer to see what and how they can handle the wheeling.

Darren, no offense taken, what I wanted to get across the older 42-55 Jeeps are tough can do vehicles, heck my sister still has her 69 CJ5 V-6 3 speed OD Jeep (why?), that thing has been crap since new. It rides like a hobby horse, cold soft top, gas hog, frame cracked twice before gusseted, trans & motor rebuilds, OD repaired ($$$), Warren hubs all have failed one time or another all within 80K miles. This is driven by a woman not Dukes of Hazard. Had to machine hubs and make new thicker thrust washers, machine and salvage OD, machine bell housing, add spacer ring on the bearing support to get trans concentric with engine clutch chatter from new. With a machine shop background when younger, Licensed A & P mechanic and electrician by trade (needed if you own a Rover) I think I can get around a vehicle. With a lathe, Bridgeport Tig & Mig in the shop I take mechanical work as a serious hobby. Now if Rover would go back to basics and reintroduce a light weight Series 1 with 5 speed turbo diesel, full aluminum body on a tube chassis, 4 wheel independent long travel suspension with a hose down interior they would then have a world class vehicle. Call it B.OB.B, Basic Outback Beast. But then they are looking for high profit from volume sales which is cup holders, sound systems, leather, overly complicated electronics that fail, over weight vehicles but then the buyers don't care as it's the look at me coccer mom factor. How many stick box new Rovers do you see? OB1 I love it, read code, correct and clear in the garage, no dealer sheep shearing wallet here. Thank goodness the wife drives stick but then she used to autocross her Porsche years ago. Now if I was mr. average idiot I would drive a chebby.

The best part it's now bone dry (no oil leaks) only took 4 years hard work. Still holding at 3 doors that open only from the inside (broken door lock springs) have replacements but must gut doors and remove window frames PITA.
It even passed smog back in January after I cleared stepper motor fault code, a restrictor added in the line to give 575 rpm at start up instead or 1,550 but if started cold with AC still on idle goes to 500 hence puter fault code. Simple oops AC off and code clear thing. The joys of OB1, easy to locate fault, repair and reset yourself.
I read about OB3 were new cars will have a transmitter to alert a satellite
when you have a fault code then big brother will make you repair it immediately instead of correcting at test time. Also CHP will be able to perform random tests as well roadside sniffers.
Is the lake were it belongs or spilling over due to this rain? Get read for another spring full of mosquitos.

You know this county turns into one big lake when it rains, hence the name...

But I fear we're getting a wee bit off-topic in this thread. It really is about Jeff!
