I had my 03 6.0 reflashed and then then went on a 1,500 mile run and lost 3 mpg pulling trailer and thought maybe the trailer was heavy or head wind something. Then on the drive home my mileage was down at least 4 mpg. Power was also down. I have a banks six gun and I could tell a difference. Cold start was harder. The next week my wife took the truck empty on a 400 mile trip when it got back it had the engine light on, but the truck ran much better. I did not take it in because I did not want them to detune my truck again. Thinking maybe the truck computer rebooted back to original program or something. Two weeks later I blew a head gasket or cracked a head I assume. I blew fluid out of the overflow. I guarantee the reflash detuned my truck.
Granted, this is not conclusive proof but it's a good indication that something is up.
I was checking out the Superchips webpage looking for data on the new Flashpaq programmer for the 6.0 PSD. First thing I noticed was that they have two separate and distinct models for the 2003-2005 and the 2006. The dyno plots they show clearly indicate that the 2006 model year is down on power by around 50HP and 65FTLBS in comparison to the 2003-2005 PSD dyno's (stock comparisons). The tuned performance numbers are also down for the 2006.
I was not aware of any powertrain changes for the 2006 model year. Had I known, I most certainly would have held off on my purchase. I do recall hearing that the 2006 was now emmissions legal in all 50 states though. Perhaps, they detuned for EPA reasons. I'm not too happy about this. And it appears that Ford may have some explaining to do
They worked for a while after I posted. Not sure why not now. Try going to the Superchips main page and pulling up both Flashpaq programmers for the 6.0. You'll see the dyno plots on the second page.
It sounds to me like the guy that spent all that time running around dealerships counting trucks on the service rack must be a slow study. If you feel that ford is that inferior, why are you driving one? I prefer to look at legitimate reports that consider things like customer satisfaction, number of recalls, total cost of ownership, and etc. I also trust my own personal experience as a lifelong Ford owner.
This not rocket science. The research I did at the dealerships was because of the problems I have had AFTER I purchased the truck. As of 10/29/04 I had no reason to suspect that this motor has a oil leak problem. All the research noted that the problems with the 6.0 were in production years 03 and 04. Those problems according to the data had been delt with and were not issue's on the 05 06 model years. My research AFTER the oil leaks and no starts and ck engine lights were experienced by ME personnally was due to the fact that I was in the pre-planning of a manufacturer buyback. I did not retain an attorney, I compiled all the data myself and went to arbitration. At arbitration The arbitrators ruling is the final word for ford. So I knew I had to have all my ducks in a row so to speak. One of the problems with arbitration is they can tell ford to replace my vehicle, I did not want this so I had to prove that the problems I have experienced had become very common with this drivetrain. I was awarded a full buy back by the arbitrator, this was due in part to my documentation that could not be disputed. As well as the fact that ford has now reconized that the 6.0 is very problematic to say the least!
Custom if one of the sources you look at is recalls, then why are you driving a ford 6.0 truck? It has had the most recalls in the shortest production span of any diesel light to medium duty truck....EVER!!!
Seems to be a common complaint that dealerships reflash even when specifically asked not to.Does anybody know if Ford covertly(or not) requires their dealers to perform the reflash regardless of owner's wishes?
I have a 05 psd and I'm not sure about this reflash. I didn't notice any performance difference except the idle when cold. Then 500 mile later all hell broke loose. At 7,500 blew rear main & oil sending unit, then at 8,000 cracked head. Ford said this has been happening. Anyone else hear this?
This flash has been out for only a couple of months. You have put 8000 miles on your truck since the reflash?

I am sure that some dealers will perform the flash whether or not you want them to. They are paid by Ford to do it just like any other warranty repair. I have specifically talked to two dealers in my city and both swear that they honor their customers requests and I believe them both.
As for the 06's being detuned at the factory, I don't believe that at all. The truck I bought, which is an 06 built in Sept of 05, has an advertised spec of 325 hp and 570 ft/lbs of torque. Therefore it does. Enough said.
