Anyone compare this filter with the 400-500 "intake kits" available at varios performance sites???
Looks to me like these should work just as well... Has anyone not offered a custom bent metal tube for this filter??? Looks like this filter swap idea has been around for a while now...

Some testing has been done and what was discovered is that this filter flows as much and in most cases more than other filters do. And, it's a pile of cash cheaper.
There are a few custom intakes out there. You'll have to do some searching though. Check this link out to get you started: http://store.airflo.com/psi-03.html
Ok say I went on to look at the truck today as I work at a Honda dealer so I was gonna bring it in today and do the mod but I have 2 questions. Do I remove the stock air box? and if so what do I do with the little Air box air cleaner repalce gauge? It has an electrical plug to it and also what looks to be a mass air flow sensor in the air box what do I do with these 2? just unplug them? and leave them Im afraid to throw a check engine light if I do if you unplug anyhting on Hondas it will thanks Steven

Yes, remove the stock airbox. It might be part of the battery tray too. I didn't want to get a different battery tray, so I just cut off the part of the airbox that was in the way. I can still mount my battery in it's original tray and the battery has the protective cover it.
Check out SpringerPop's gallery. He has mounted the filterminder into the end of the air filter. The plug is not for a MAF. Our trucks don't have a MAF. The plug is for a light on the dash that will tell you when your filter is in need of a change. Mine doesn't have a wire, so I just ditched it. Ford started putting the wire in them a year or two after mine.

The "filter minder" you can reuse like SpringerPop, or just take it out altogether and throw it away or make it into an ornament.
The little sensor in the side of the box, is the intake air temperature sensor, which is used in a combination of other things to help it decide to close the ebpv and/or idle up a bit to help speed up warmups. You can just zip tie it to some of those big wires or lines under the brake fuild resevoir, that's what most do. It will still get it's temperature reading for the intake air right there.
Ok, just to clear things up. There are 2 things inside the air box. One is the Air temp sensor, which needs to stay plugged in. Like ryan said, just zip tie it to the wires under the filter. As far as the filter minder, I think ryan's is like mine (same year truck), and is just the piece by itself. If that's the case, the filter minder can just be done away with. However, depending on the year, there might be a wire tied to it too. Unplugging it will probably set a code, but not trip an SES light. PoWeRsTrOkEdF250, you might fill in your signature so we can better help you -- knowing what year your truck is and what your mods are.
Here's a pic of the Air Intake Sensor, and how I've got it secured under the filter:
Check out Guzzle's mods website (click on "Mods and Maintenance under his truck's picture in his signature) to give you the complete (very well-written) procedure for mounting your stock FilterMinder back into the new 6637 filter.
I highly recommend that you do, as they are there for a reason. Ford wouldn't spend the money to install them if they thought they were worthless. Remember, they take even (seemingly) more useful things out of the trucks each year to save themselves a buck and increase their profits. The FilterMinder isn't one of them.
I think so highly of a monitor for the state of my air filters that I bought a gasser version and installed it in my wife's Odyssey. It's something Honda left out, I guess to save a buck or two.
Thanks for all your help I looked at SpringerPop profile and saw how he did it. He drilled a .007 hole in the end of it and then reused the factory rubber groment and filter minder. So I did the same thing as mine is a 2002 So it has the wires running to it. Worked out great and fit really snug I put a little black adhesive silcone around it to help seal it. I was very disapointed in how much the stock air box had leaked dust around the filter. I had to clean out all the pipes to the turbo with brake clean and a rag. My turbo wheel didnt look to bad yet but Im still gonna put a wicked wheel in it. I also was able to slip the filter on the inside of the boot without using a piece of pipe. It was kinda a chore but with an unlimited supply of silcone spray I was able to get it on there and use the stock filter box clamp. I also zipped tied the temp sensor on one of the master cylinder brake lines right below the new filter. I really like this mod I can know hear the turbo working and it really suckin in the air. This will be one of the many more mods I do to this truck with everyones help here thanks Steven
Be careful with the use of that silicone spray. Even though it's a little stretch to get the ducting over the filter neck, you should make sure that the connection is as clean and dry as possible when doing this.
The lube you used might allow the filter to slip off the ducting, causing an air leak. A no-no! I went to the trouble of even cleaning the mating surfaces with lacquer thinner and have not had a problem.
Others HAVE had this happen to them, so keep an eye out for it!

Alright thanks for the tip I will keep that in mind I am usually under the hood of it everyday bringing it in and checking and greasing things and just overall inspection. Thats cool you put the filter minder in the honda Odessey. Honda recommends you replace it every 30,000 reguadless of if the road is very dusty you drive on or all just highway miles. So I guess they rely on that for people to change filters. I work on some real untaken care of nasty cars once in awhile it amazes me some still run after all of it.
They're pretty forgiving vehicles. Change the timing belts every 90K and the oil at least every 5K, tranny every 36K, too. Cheap battery every 36 months, an occasional CVU boot, and it just keeps on ticking!
the filter does not effect your boost. the boost is controlled by the exhaust flow and is limited by the wastegate. the filter WILL help you hear the turbo more, with a plethora of other neat noises that you will come to love. if this isn't enough, you can swap out the compressor wheel to a "wicked wheel" and hear the turbo whenever you want!
hey, do you have guages to go with that SCMT?
I disagree. A less restrictive filter will increase boost. Remember when Mech was playing around with those filters and found that a 46637 was just like not having a filter at all? Someone should have the thread around here.
I just did the KWIK filter mod today along with the CCV mod. I used a 4 inch exhaust tube with a 45* bend in it, and cut off one side a little shorter then the other for overall length. When I put it into the rubber tube that connects to the turbo then put the filter on the other end, it really presses up against the master cylinder and I am afraid it might damage the master cylinder if the engine moves during twist or torque. In my opinion, the smooth metal tubing would flow better than the orginal rough rubber tubing.....maybe? If I can't get it better situated I may make some short metal connections and just connect the filter to the stock tube and use that....Any opinions on what I may have done wrong cause it just doesn't seem to fit right.....Thanks for any help...Dave
