I have read alot about the "KwiK" air filter mod with the big paper filter and I am intrested in doing it as well besides the filter and removing the stock air box. What else do I need to complete this mod? thanks Steven

I think it might depend on what year you have. I just did this mod on my 2000 Ex and I didn't need anything but the filter and vrey basic tools. The stock intake boot fit right over the filter with a little patience and coaxing. Stock clamp worked as well.

My truck is a 2002 with a 7.3 I was just wondering if I was going to have to use like a piece of steel pipe from the filter to the stock air intake boot or if the filter would just slip over and clamp solid with no air leaks around the joints maybe some else knows for sure? or has a picture?

You can get it a Napa - it is part#6637, or you can order it online from fleetfilter.com part #46637. You may even be able to find the #46637 at another auto parts place since that one is the WIX filter

Some folks use a piece of exhaust pipe in between the air intake tube and the filter, connecting them with hose clamps. Others slip the intake air tube end right OVER the filter opening. They've found this is easiest by removing the air tube off the truck, taking it and the filter and working it on at a work bench, then reinstalling the whole thing.

If you use a pipe in between, try getting one with an outside diameter of 4".

The cheapest place to buy the filter is from fleetfilter.com. Use a piece of 4" exhaust tubing that is 3"-4" long to connect the filter to the stock boot. Don't use PVC pipe to connect the two. It can warp and cause a leak. You should be able to find a piece of tubing at a local big rig shop. I got mine for free as they had a piece of scrap lying around and just gave it to me. Here's a pic:

It makes a difference. You should see better MPG and feel the engine breathe better, with a little more HP. It becomes even more apparent when you start adding a chip or tuner.

If I add this filter to my truck will I have a problem with over boosting. I have a superchip and a 4" MBRP exhaust and love the performance and sound. I would like to hear the turbo more but I don't want to buy a new turbo. Any suggestions for my situation?

the filter does not effect your boost. the boost is controlled by the exhaust flow and is limited by the wastegate. the filter WILL help you hear the turbo more, with a plethora of other neat noises that you will come to love. if this isn't enough, you can swap out the compressor wheel to a "wicked wheel" and hear the turbo whenever you want!

hey, do you have guages to go with that SCMT?

Absolutely. I would have never done these mods without them. I have a pyro, boost and tranny even though its a 6 spd. You wouldn't happen to have clips of those other interesting sounds by chance would you? I also would like to know why those "sounds" are caused. Extremely high air flow?

no, sorry, i dont have any sound clips. hopefully someone else does. the sounds are "there" with the stock intake, but the stock intake is so restrictive, you can't really hear it. once you upgrade to a system that is much less restrictive, you hear EVERYTHING. i like to listen to the turbo spin down after stopping the engine. the sounds you will get is a large sucking sound when producing boost, it is the air being sucked in the filter very fast. when you are on the throttle and let off (such as to switch gears), you will hear a loud WOOSHing sound. i love it, and its completely normal. it is just the air escaping past the turbo and back out the filter. you will love it guaranteed, unless you hate how "loud" your powerstroke is.
