ok thanks dave that answers my question , cause i have a 75 with a closed knuckle axle , speaking of which ,,, does anyone have a dana 44 for parts ,,,,its a light duty i beleive
Sooner or later your going to be needing the seals and wipers. You SHOULD be able to get them at your local Ford dealer, but if they dont have them JCWhitney has them, look in the Jeep section. Old military jeeps used almost the same axle, and they are cheaper.
dynamic i have the front end you are talking about, dana 44 out of a 75 F250 4x4 light duty, i would be glad to get rid of it. Let me know if you want it and where you live cause i will not ship it.
Dynamic, there were dana 44 front open knuckle axles made with the trunnion bearing setup like the closed unit-no ball joints- open knuckles, I have one in my 71 F-100 4x4. The main problem with these units was the bearings dry up too fast and cause a lot of headaches.I center drilled the bearing kingpin caps all the way thru and installed grease zerks,4 total. now all I do is grease the bearings every time I am under the truck and have had no problems in two years.
