I have a '91 F350 Supercab 7.3 IDI with a 5 speed manual. When I shift into reverse it grinds and doesn't seem to 'slip' into gear like others. Then if I used a light pedal I move back. If I gun it just a tad it'll slip out of reverse unless I hold the shifter. But if I put er in first and creep foreward a foot it won't gring goiung into reverse, but other symptoms still happen. The only tranny work I've done is replacing them or a clutch, so I'm not knowing what's wrong. Thanks.....Matt
Reverse is usually not synchronized, if there is grind going into reverse your clutch is not properly set up. As for the other symptoms either your clutch or the clutch teeth on the gear/blocking ring are shot and need replacement.

Gear/blocking rings are internal to the transmission. Each gear in a manual transmission has a second set of 'teeth' that mesh with a sliding collar/ring that also is meshed to the shaft the gear is turns on.
Transmission needs to be pulled out and torn down to inspect and replace those parts.
Automatic transmissions are a whole different animal.
