I Own A 78 F100 Truck. 351m Engine Automatic Transmission. I Have Replaced Fuel Pump, Fuel Filter, Engine Module, Ignition Switch, And Key Cylinder. My Truck Has A Push Button Installed From The Previous Owner For The Starter. I Want To Make It Work With The Key Switch. How Can I Fix This Problem. I Thought New Switch Or Engine Module Would Work. I Have Even Tried A New Solenoid, Still No Luck. Any Thoughts
Neutral Safety. Unless he run the wires direct to the solenoid on the fender well, they spliced into the harness somewhere. Chances are the original problem for the push button was to by pass the Neutral Safety switch, and they did not know how to trouble shoot it, and the bypass was easier.
Trace the wires from the push button first and see how they done it. If it is spliced into the harness, they had to have a hot supply then they spliced into the wire in the harness going through the firewall. Undo this splice, then reconnect the wires. If this does not get it working, then check the neuteral Safey switch. I assume it is a C6 Trans, it should be mounted to the Trans where the Shifter shaft and linkage attach. It will have a small wire harness and plug. I forget the pin out on this, but maybe someone else can tell you, but you can by-pass the switch with a jumper to test it. There should only be 4 wires, two for Neuteral Safety, and two for reverse lights.

People do this modifaction because they are lazy or have bad troubleshooting skills. Return the trucks wiring to original as posted earlier. It could be something as easy as a miss adjusted ignition switch, neutral saftey switch, or more serious steering collum rod and rack problem. Do u have tilt wheel? Makes a difference in parts. GOOD LUCK HUNTING DAHMER
