In a vehicle that has a 390 mated to a C6, is there supposed to be a transmission kick down linkage off of the carburetor, or is it all done by vacuum?
The vacuum modulator will control when the truck shifts to the next gear (all C6's have this unless they use a manual valve body) but the kickdown lever instantly shifts down when it's pressed for quick passing. They used the rod out of the factory. Personally I like to swap in a kickdown cable instead. This makes it easy to use car spacers, or different carbs if you choose to.
Putting it back together. It's actually in a '67 TBird, but it's all the same. The car is complete, but alot of it is in the trunk and the backseat and i don't recall seeing a kickdown lever. It may already be on there, but i just picked the car up and have only had one good chance to look at it and can't remember if i'd seen it or not.
Next time I'm going to have a chance to mess with it is on friday, so i'll check it all out then.
And honestly this is the first automatic I've ever owned. I know what stuff is ::typically:: there, but I'll probably be asking alot more linkage type questions in the near future.
If your trying to get it all back together..Dont worry about it..If you cant find it right away.....Tbird will be fine wiithout it for now..But if you are gonna nail the throttle and light up the tires youll want it...Just get it running and show us some pics of that FE....
