I just saw your post about that. Made me gratefull that mine are removed.
I like your idea about the 5/16 line and fittings.
There is no replacement for displacement.
My 02 drops significantly in noise with a fresh oil change (Rotella 15-40). Makes me wonder which component of the oil needs refreshing, and what additive I should add rather than do the 3000 mile oil change. Does the same thing happen with a synthetic oil? Guess I could experiment, but there's a wealth of experience on this forum.
Warren
Warren, synthetic oil is quieter when the engine is cold, but virtually no difference when warm.
My experience was while I was on vacation in Yellowstone in autumn of 2004. I had Pennzoil Long Life 15-40 in the crankcase. The truck did fine, but I noticed when the engine was cold it made a LOT more noise at high altitudes until it would get up to operating temperature. Once warmed up, I couldn't tell any difference.

Kwik:
The ITP installation instructions for its kit to replace the fittings upstream of the pump call for dropping the tank. Can that be right, or have they combined the tubing kit with the intank kit? Also, If I just put in the tubing kit, can you recommend a prefilter with a clear bowl so I can see if there is any more air coming from the tank?
Thanks
Warren
Warren I dropped my tank over a year ago to do the Hutch mod and eliminate the quick connects. I haven't paid any attention to what's being offered lately because I don't need it. So I don't know that answer.
Cookie88 had a real nice setup, check his gallery.
I use the Diablo Predator on the Tow/Haul mode all the time. It's tune actually quieted down the engine, not make it louder.
Kwik, I noticed the same thing with my Predator. The engine seems quietier and somewhat more "refine" or smoother in any of the tow/performance settings.

The ITP kit has the in-tank parts to do what is known as the 'hutch' mod. To add a pre-pump filter, you may need to purchase additional fuel hose to get everything connected. As far as filters go, check Ebay, there's a lot of new Racor filters there with a good price, just make sure it's rated for diesel.
I'm assuming your truck already has the underhood insulation, right?
I also did two layers of dynamat on the doors and floor. Most noticable was a reduction in road noise when I did the doors. The floor was already pretty well insulated.
The HPX mod definately does help.
Also, if you have an open element filter, you might consider switching to the AIS.
I don't think it has anything to do with the open element filter. It's more injector noise. I spoke w/ TS Performance today and I do have the latset programming. They stated the program really didn't mess w/ timing, more of an increase in fuel pressue. If this is the case, the HX line and fuel line mods may help. Also need to check if fuel pump is supplying enough pressure. I'm going to get our mechanic at work to put his Snap-on scanner on it and check the pressures when we can catch his boss gone for a few minutes.
