Tips on decreasing engine noise needed

I know, I know, it's a diesel. The problem is it just seems a lot louder than most others I drive. The injectors knock a lot more since the chip and has become quite noticeable under even moderate acceleration. Pulling the 5th wheel it really rattles. Just wanting some tips on best mods, if any, to quieten her down a little. Absolutley no complaints about the power I now have BTW. Will the HPX line help with the noise or is it a air in fuel problem? Thanks for any suggestions.

What setting are you pulling with? Sounds like whoever programmed that chip put in too much advance.
Getting rid of the air will always help no matter what as will the HX line. I suggest pulling the chip when you tow, or at the very least tow in the lowest setting.

It's largely a function of the fuel system. Air is cause and poor fuel system delivery design. Dead end fuel rail...UGH!
The HP X line will smooth the idle a bit.
Go with a regulated external fuel delivery system and remove quick connect fittngs in fuel line from tank to inlet of fuel pump. The Hutch mod will help remove air too.
U can do a search on these mods for lots of good info.

Kwik is right. As a compromise, start and warm up for 10 miles or more in stock setting before switching to a higher power setting on the chip. In addition, if you are near a source, try running on 10 -20% biodiesel; Bio quiets the engine right down. Mine was really much quieter at 70 and 90% bio, and started getting noisy again at 16%. My HPX line didn't seem to help much, maybe because I was already on the bio. Try one, its pretty easy and cheap. Use a solid SS line.

Biodiesel, baby, Biodiesel. (I know, it doesn't involve wrenching but it does work...)

Man i gotta try some of this bio stuff!
I'm also thinking that if there is an unusual amount of extra air leaking in that running a chip with it's corresponding greater fuel flow is going to make things noisier.
Also, what about t/c lock-up points changed by the chip.

The chip is from TS Performance and usually tow in the 50hp setting, occasionally bump up to the 75 when in flat land. Around town not pulling I use the 75 hp setting w/ same noise levels. Bio is not readily available here yet. Have to travel a little to get it. I'll begin looking into the fuel system mods today. It's not unbearable, just more noticeable than others I drive at work. Of course they are stock. Is there any possible damage going on I should be looking into?

I am of the opinion that you are aggrevating the cavitation problem that all diesel engines have to deal with. It's easily prevented by using the proper coolants, additives, etc. But to audibly increase the sound level that the engine is making can only mean one thing in my mind - increased engine stresses.
I use the Diablo Predator on the Tow/Haul mode all the time. It's tune actually quieted down the engine, not make it louder. If I were you I would contact the vendor where you bought the chip and see if there are any updates available.
If it were my truck I wouldn't be running it like that, I would be too worried about the engine.

yes i agree. i have a TS 6 psoition chip too, and it is much louder than stock. going down the road and switching from stock to any perf. program, it gets noticeably louder from stock to 50, but doesnt change between 50-140.

That's strange because I also have the TS 6pos but the 50 and 75 tunes sound the same as stock, it's only when I hit the 100hp tune that I notice more engine noise.

i am talking about pulling a small hill, where you would need 20% pedal or so. when coasting or cruising on flat ground, no it doesnt change sound. it is fun to find a big hill, and attack the bottom on the stock setting, and click through the programs with the same size foot.

If you haven't already, start with the in-tank and pre-pump mods to eliminate air being sucked into the fuel line.

The chip was just purchased last month so I'm wondering if I have the latest programs. I'll call mon. morn. and check into that. I have not done the fuel mods but plan to. Just trying now to decide which first, HPX or fuel line mods. Have to carefully purchase things a little at a time.

Speaking of fuel line mods Kwik...i'm almost finished with my external reg mod
and noticed something interesting. How small those stock reducer(check valve) fittings are and they have little wire mesh screens. Talk about choked flow!
