im getting tired of not getting the right gear on the column shifter so i decided to go with a floor shifter, im looking at getting the B&M StarShift. has anyone here put a floor shifter in one of these trucks? also has anyone had any experiance with a StarShift?
Hello, I've had a B&M Star Shifter before. They are good shifters and work well but, you will be much happier with a B&M Light Truck Mega Shifter. They work about the same but, the Light Truck Mega shifter has a much taller base for a truck which looks better and is more comfortable to use. These are really easy to hook up and work really smooth with cable opertation. They have a lighted indicator, reverse lockout, neutral safety switch, and backup light switch hookups. They come with a whole pack full of extra brackets for about any transmission on the planet, so you can use it in about any vehicle or transmission you choose.
You can look in my gallery for a side view. After my column screwed up for the second time, I was over it and went to the Light Truck Mega Shifter and never looked back. Most good perfomance shops sell them. Summit Racing would be a good place to pick one up too.
i am not too concernd with the height of it, i went out in my truck with a tape measure and something to act as the grip and put it at about 12 inches and it felt fine for shifting, now if it was a manaul there would be a problem but it is fine, plus i like that you can go from detent to ratchet and have some fun. also the truck mega shifter is a bit more expensive than the starshifter and i have limited money and i need to fix my exhaust manifolds also. the main reason i am getting this is because i dont have a neutral saftey switch or back up light switch and this comes with them and i am really getting sick of being in neutral thinking im in reverse.
I can understand that. I had a Star Shifter in a 66 Cheby Truck with a 396 and Turbo 400 once. It worked really well and took a lot of abuse. Yea, they are a good bit cheaper. I'd say you'd be happy with one.
There's a new one on ebay right now with a buy it now and free shipping for $119. The item number is 8030126747. I don't know if that's a good price or not, but it might be.
actaully that is about $40 cheaper than ordering it from summit like i was going to, i dont have an e-bay account but their web site said i can call them to order so ill do that, thanks for finding that.
I was looking at putting the Hurst truck shifter in my 79' f250 4x4 w/400. All of these types say up to 78', i was wondering if it would still be fine or what i would have to do. Thanks
