I have a 78 f350 and want to convert her to 350 4x4 stats
i found a c6 with a np205 married and have had terrible luck finding a dana 60 front. do 350s have wider frame rails than 250s
? ANY and ALL help and advice is greatly appreciated!
Gypsynomad, it is possible but will take some work. I think the frame rails are the same distance apart, but there is more to it than that. Your two wheel drive has coils up front, doesn't it? The 250+350 4wds had leafs in the front. If it were me, I would think about getting a reverse cut dana 60 from Dynatrac. If you had it made for coil springs you could imitate the front end of a 67-79 half ton, and maybe use the front coils you already have. If the majority of weight you carry will be in the back, you could use a Dana 44 from a 1/2 truck and put 3/4 ends on it so your wheels all match. The very 'Best' 2 to 4 wheel site I have ever seen is from a Nova Scotia Canada guy, Steve, who converted his E350 disel van to 4wd. Check out Steve's truck and how he did it at http://www.glinx.com/~sbest/ DF
thanks so much for an educated sugestion. i DONT want to sell my truck. i was thinking that i could rid olblue of the entire ifs coils and all and install spring packs up front. making her just like a factory 350 4x4. i have a factory c6 married np205 in the garage and im still searching for a dana 60 front. i thought of the dynatrac but the price is prolonging my search for an old one. once that happens im thinking i could mount the new springs all around, swap in the c6/np205 mount the transfer bracket bolt up the front 60 and change the stearing box or relocate the one i have. then have drive shafts made. what do you think have i miss anything in my figuring. thanks again
I'm looking to do the same w/ my '78 F-250, I want to keep the same frame and go w/ leafs in the front w/ a Dana 60 to match the rear. I found a 4x4 frame w/o axles for $400, I'm debating on whether that's too much for a couple of crossmembers. I'm also going w/ divorced mount NP-205 behind my existing C-6. Keep me up to date on your progress! Thanks, Doc
LAST EDITED ON 11-Sep-01 AT 05:43 AM (EST)[p]I can hook you up with 77.5-79 Ford D60s for $1850 + shipping from AZ, could be 3.54 or 4.10 ratio depending on what he has at the moment, but I know he has 2 of them right now... shipping would probably be $200ish at the most, but I can't guarantee that.
stock front springs, hangers & shackles should be doable too... even t-case crossmembers...
biggest problem I can think of that you'd have would be figuring out where to drill the holes for the hangers (I don't belive 2wd frames are drilled for these) & the holes for the shackle in the frame
e-mail me @ bigorangeford(No Email Addresses In Posts!) if your serious about this... & no, the price is not negotiable, they're not mine, but I know he won't come down

Dana 60s are in HOT demand, so chances are you're not going to get one cheap unless you can find a deal at a swap meet. Just thought I'd put in my 2cents.
